I like it when the normal world reacts to what's going on in the story, but fairly often it seems that supernatural stuff stays in the supernatural world and so the world can just go on as per usual without taking notice. In particular, seeing the big events that have happened show up on the news is something I find interesting.
Scanning my lists, the only manga I can remember putting a focus on this are Bokurano and Death Note. Animewise, Brigadoon does it extensively from what I've watched.
