onemanga will be sorely missed. meh, It's stupid that they are closing it down. I mean they think that they are losing money because of sites like onemanga, but really people can just go to other sites and two I think the people that are really die hard fans of manga like me buy the manga anyways.

actually i think its a good thing online readers like onemanga and mangafox go down.

it is their fault that the manga industry got note of us.
a casual manga reader wouldnt go to gotlurk or mangatraders to get his manga. far to complicated for the mainstream reader.
but if a friend of a friend told a friend that you can just read your mangas online, i give you this link.

and if those people look at the prices for manga in the stores, which are absurd....they would think twice about buying something they get for free.

those people easily decide to just read it online. and furthmore be 100 chapters ahead of the english release.

we were a closed community before the time of online-readers.
i buy the manga i'm really a fan of. but not the mainstream entertainment crap. the exact mainstream crap that publishers make the most money of.

those mainstream readers that bought their manga before the age of online reading, now swarm the internet. and of course that reflects in the earnings of publishers.

pandoras box was opend and now we all are targets. even those of us who mostly read stuff that english publishers dont give a damn about anyways.
i hope it ends with the death of these online readers...hope dies last...

I have fond memories of OM-when I was just starting to read manga a decade ago (I feel OLD O.O ) OM was my main source for online viewing, which was all I knew at the time.

When I realized I could dl it and read it on my computer without eating bandwidth to try and load a page, I did. And I was grateful to MH for that-heck, I still am.
Without both those sites i'd never have had my weekly, bimonthly, or monthly fix for all those years.

Unfortunately this is a double-edged sword. With the ever-popularization of mainstream media, anime and manga became more popular and with that, people sought more simple ways to find things, rather than irc and even a ddl found on a site, they looked to online viewers.

So here we are, without OM, and MH. I don't blame them really, and I'm not really angry. Just sort of sad that it came to an end. Whatever "it" is/was.There are still plenty of places to get your manga-good online viewers and yes, of course the sites allowing for ddl.
Like the person above mentioned, there's mangatraders and gotlurk.
Online viewers did have a place in scanlation, but I still prefer my manga downloaded and read at my leisure on my desktop-in higher quality.

So to you, OM. You will be missed. Even if you're eventually replaced.

wow, that's a harsh yet truthful way to put it. eek

personally, i despise viz and tokyopop, especially tokyopop. so i dont give a care in the world about reading any of their series online. i really like yen press, and thankfully i like them and care about them enough that when i find an interesting series they publish, i buy em. smile

But I'm sad that Onemanga is closing down! That was the first place i went to. ):

no chances of mangaupdates closing right?? Cos it seems like with all the online reading sites closing we will need to go directly to scanlatorz website.

Now this is when I'll start freaking out. Seeing how MU is a database site that names the scanlators and has links to almost EVERY SINGLE scanlator website, it'll be a huge step back if this place gets shut down.

Yeah. This is when I too will begin to worry.

Hopefully the site shutting down will wake people up and have them go out and actually buy the manga. If you love reading manga so much go buy it and support the creators and the industry you apparently love so much instead of stealing from them.

I highly doubt anyone who goes on those websites would steal a physical copy of the book from a store so why would you steal a digital copy of it? And if your excuse is that you're downloading stuff that isn't translated I have news for you: that's stealing too. It's still a copy of the book that the mangaka is never paid for.

Not that everyone is like that, I know people who will buy the translated versions or import the manga when they've downloaded something but that is far from being the majority of people.

And the people who say that the translated copies come out too slowly are even worse. Have we manga fans really become so impatient and greedy that we resort to stealing rather than waiting?

It's sad that something that really started the manga and anime industry is causing it's downfall. I'm very proud of the people who run one manga that they complied and closed down.

And big shot corporations? Seriously? They have to step in because the smaller companies can't say anything because the piracy has already run them out of business.

Bitching about the publishers just proves that you're part of the problem. Grow up.

yeah, tokypop pisses me off a lot. ._. i hate their title changes (karin to chibi vampire, wtf!?) and how they try to make their covers look fancy but it just messes everything up. and they don't translate sound effects, and they decide to liscense some of the best series and do a crappy job of releasing them. that's why my favorite publishers will always be del rey, cmx manga (WHICH I JUST FOUND OUT CLOSED DOWN!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?), and yenpress. :3
as just said earlier, i googled cmx manga and apparently it shut down july first!!! eek eek eek eek eek eek eek whaaaaaaaaat!!?? man, this really sucks...

cmx manga (WHICH I JUST FOUND OUT CLOSED DOWN!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?)

"“Over the course of the last six years, CMX has brought a diverse list of titles to America and we value the books and creators that we helped introduce to a new audience. Given the challenges that manga is facing in the American marketplace, we have decided that CMX will cease publishing new titles as of July 1, 2010."

The challenges manga is facing include competition with free scanlation sites and manga viewing websites such as one manga.

@Foreverchuu Tokyopop cancels their series because of declining sales. And also because they lost the licensing for Kodansha titles, though some of those were picked up by Dark Horse and other companies.

It's naive of the companies to think this will work. Otaku on trial for scanlating manga. I would love to see that farce of a trial. I'm curious to know how piracy law will apply to scanlation. Say $7.50 average/volume * # of releases * # of views per release = damage. Sure every person doesn't read every volume, but that wasn't enough to stop the music industry. They could learn from the music industry and realize this is an epic fail. For every 1 site that goes down, 2 more spring up.

Well...Worst case scenario: More ero doujinshi online than original manga. Hentai cosplay anyone?

and about the virus'...I've been on MF for 3+ years and never got a virus, plus there is a part of the forum where we can help you avoid these problems. (*gotomangafox*) biggrin

Plus...I think we definitely have more series....I would know 'cause I uploaded half of them smile

And it's naive of you to think stealing is the right thing to do. Sure the music industry survives but do you pay attention to how many manga publishers have gone out of business because of sites like these? CMX, Go! Comi, Be Beautiful, Aurora Publishing including it's branch off chapters. Hell even Viz had to lay off 40% of it's employees.

I know it's my problem. But I LIVE IN HUNGARY. Amazon is not invincible. The Hungarian manga market is almost non-existent. Though I have to give it to them it sprung up lately. Still I can't imagine myself reading the Hungarian version of the most recent chapters of Naruto for at least...5 more years?! Thanks, I would buy it, I'm buying the volumes as they get out, I have several manga volumes in English, I'll continue buying them even if I've already read them online, cuz I'm a fan. I still want to be up to date as of the happenings in Naruto and my other favs!!! Not read the 594th chapter of One Piece 10 years after it was first published!

Maybe when they start doing quality job and not censoring shit out of it they would do better? Ever thought about it? I mean in most cases fan translators have higher quality translations because they check and recheck trying to be as close to original as possible while the crap that Viz does is closer to rewrite rather thane translating and not let me start about censoring and cutting portions of text because it is too suggestive...

They would bee more rightful in my eyes if they provided quality yet sadly so far in 96% of the cases fan translation is way over the translation that publishers provide.

Or are you incapable to realize that some people want quality and sadly Viz and Tokyopop are incapable of providing that?

And I'd like to know how this will help them? People who never bought it will not buy it and just go to mirc and so on, on the other hand there were those who read the manga online and then bought it to have it in book format but now they ,might not simply out of spite.

And are you too dumb to e-mail either of these companies and maybe start a petition to get them to change? And bullshit 96% of the translations are bad, I can say the same for scanlations which are amateur translations done by fans. I find dozens of grammatical errors all over scans so don't even say they're perfect. Throwing random percentages out won't help your argument.

You can sit there and say what these companies do is wrong but complaining to a small community of fans and refusing to buy the translations doesn't send the message that you want better quality, it sends the message that you're too lazy to organize a movement and would much rather steal not only from the companies but from the creators themselves who get absolutely no money from scanlations at all.

So if you think you're being all righteous and fighting against the manga companies you're fooling yourself. You're hurting the creators just as much. If you're gonna bitch about quality get off your rear and actually do something about it, get together all the people who agree with you that the translations are terrible and have all of those people mail TP and Viz, they won't ignore the fans, or else they wouldn't make a profit.

And I must question when the last time you even bought a manga and read anything beyond Shonen Jump titles, because quality has gone way higher than it was in the early days. I honestly can't remember the last title I picked up that was horribly butchered beyond the ability to read it.

This is something I can certainly understand, and it certainly isn't impatience to want something translated before it becomes irrelevant. I don't know much about the Hungarian manga market so I can't blame you for wanting scanlations. I am angry at the fact that most of the people I've seen complaining about the site going down are people who are very able to buy the series but refuse to for meager reasons. The only advice I can give is asking the companies themselves to up their production in your country. If you prove to them they will make money by going there they definitely will come.
