Quote from Mamsmilk
Ridiculous.
Censoring does not help at all.
Most of the time it is just plain retarded
like in hentai.

There are two kind of censoring besides pixelerating in
hentai.

I made these 2 as examples. I didn't use a real dick, since
people would probably censor my post for that.

I just saved your life with that, amirite?

What the fuck seriously?

QFFT!
Really hate lightsaber penises. One of the most reDICKulous censorship methods in the H world - they're even worse than mosaic to be honest.
The pathetic black bars...well...I guess you could say one method is going overboard and the other one is going for the bare minimum; so minimum that it's practically pointless.

I think censorship is sometimes used in situations where there's no point sometimes, and also is often done badly. It seems to me that, there's no reason in wasting any effort censoring eromanga, because kids aren't going to be looking at that stuff anyway. Perhaps you could put something to cover the front cover of it if that's too explicit, since the cover may be seen by all ages in a comic store or something, or you could keep that stuff in an adults-only section (that's why on MU, there is no sectioning off of any of the manga information, so the cover images are made appropriate for all ages)... but the inside is something that people have to choose to pick up and open it to see, so at that point they've already decided and given their approval, so why waste any time censoring it?
The second thing is that in H manga, most scenes are going to be such that even if you censor the technically explicit parts, even a kid could tell something's going on... you'd have to censor ban the entire page to make it "decent." If you compound that with what Mamsmilk was saying about crappy censorship, the censoring is failing to accomplish its purpose, so doing it is kind of a waste of time and money...
For adult/mature manga that's not eromanga, if there's some explicit content, it's more reasonable than censoring eromanga, but I still don't think it's worth it; it's still more efficient to simply have a content warning or something so that the audience knows the work is intended for adults. For other manga, I can understand thinking that it would be worthwhile to censor something if there happened to be explicit content in there, but... there isn't likely to be. Maybe there might be some nudity, but as long as it isn't lascivious, I don't see any problem with it.

Censorship in manga? Lemme split my thoughts first,

For non-adult mangas, yeah you gotta have censorship. Lets face it, when it comes to kids, "monkey see, monkey do". But you can't blindly censor everything even in non-adult mangas (blood is censored in the DBZ manga?) and expect people to socially accept it as a norm. (Last time I checked, movies "heroes" didn't use "mercy bullets") Oh and this is assuming the mangas are NOT intended for non-adults obviously. I think its safe to say a random penis in Sailor Moon is unacceptable.

For adult mangas, fuck censorship. If the products are sold exclusively to adult customers, adults have the right to buy whatever (non-illicit) things they want. Don't even get me started with movies cause the MPAA gets away with so much bullshit (they're not a government organization, so technically you can sell AO rated movies to 4 year olds)

I guess we do have to keep in mind of the Japanese genitalia censorship law...

1st option for me.

I mean - that's what the age-rating is for, right? If the content is inappropriate for children, they should just M-rate the manga and ban bookshops from selling them without proper confirmation of the buyer's age. Of course, kids who want to read perverted stuff will find a way to read it, whether they censor it or not. After all, that's what the internet means to most people, right? Free porn at your disposal 24/7 roll

Personally, I don't care about them cutting out sex scenes - because I don't read manga to watch someone making out.

But censoring blood and just plain old killing scenes? Now that really annoys me! I like a good action scene or two...a bunch of blurry lines and a checkered pattern where there should be fighting infuriates me to no end!
And as for censoring content that allegedly 'disgraces' the church or the government...what's the point of publishing the book at all, then? Leaving the political and religious intrigue out will completely destroy the plot no

I have different opinions on this.

For non-H media, I basically agree with most people here.

For H manga, I think the publishers uses the black bars just so that their manga passes the requirements that is described by the Japanese law. Without it, they are not legally protected. On the other hand, by using it, they are safe from the law, and people would still be able to 'enjoy' H manga even with the black bars as it is pointless in our eyes.

So, I think it's fine for H manga to be censored. For non-H manga, a big NO to censoring of course...

i read manga (hentia included) for the story more than the art- if i want to see some tits or what not i can go to my girlfriend or watch some *PORN* i am completely against censor anything that fits it's the age guidelines

censoring is useless the only thing the black bar has ever keep hidden was whether the girl had raisins or cherries pixelation ruins manga by take the reader out the story not that i need to see what is there but obscuring something that is clearly there simply brings hate it would be like censoring obama's skin

I don't think it's necessary to sensor out scenes that are eichi, the kids are going to be expose to it anyways. Is it really that necessary to censor out pictures with just shot of panties and bras when you compare it to music video/shows that show people in bikini grinding on one other or how there are half naked men on covers (same for women). And then there's songs about clubbing, having sex, getting drunk, doing drugs and etc. So is it really that necessary to block eichi scenes? I don't think so.

If we're talking about Hentai, yuri, yaoi...then it also doesnt make sense to block it I mean really-what the hell are you thinking...putting a black rectangle on a small part of the private parts. That doesn't make sense the penis or vagina is clearly still visible! That's a waste of ink---but you should already be of age when you read this stuff. So if your not, well I can't really stop you know can I. So technically if you're of age and it's for ppl of age then it's actually not necessary. ANd if a kid happens to pick it then...that's just tooooooooooooooo bad for the parents.
