Well, obviously, mostly everything in excess is bad.

And yeah, the otaku term isn't very widely known in the western world anyways. I learned about it early but that's because I'm not "[North] American" myself.

Besides, are otaku guys even interested in a relationship?

Pretty sure every person needs at least a hug every now and then. If they don't, they're psycholog... eh... well, they just need a cuddle too, and I bet they'll change their point of view.

But seriously, I think most of us (those single) would be. At least aiming for a serious one to top it off. That's what I think though... like that article mentioned eons before, an infinity of situations have crossed my mind if we shared some interests. It wouldn't be fun to just think about it though. laugh

ha ha finding an otaku guy would be awesome! im serious....i think they're the most interesting people to me because they share the same intense interest/passion for anime/manga that i do and don't find it weird that i stay up late watching/reading and can go hours straight without moving from my computer screen! yay for obsession!

trouble is, is that finding otakus here is close to impossible.....even if there are guys i know that find anime/manga interesting....they only watch/read naruto/bleach...nothing else..i don't consider that being an otaku...so i cant even hold a proper conversation with them regarding actual GOOD quality stuff and its boring cuz their range is so little

basically thats the reason for me laugh

I know how you feel, I for one love anime/manga marathons but some of my friends just either find it weird or look down on it. A girl who likes doing marathons is a plus for me haha. Just so addicting...

Hmm seems like people would want to make a location/gender thread than this. i know how this will end up smile wink grin

but its weird, it seems like everyone here says its hard to find a fellow "otaku", (however you want to define it) but there are clearly so many of us out there just from the evidence of this forum alone... weird confused

The irony! laugh I think it has a lot to do with location...

Eeep, I'm in class, so I've got to post and run. I'll be back to join this (fascinating!) conversation in earnest, but just for now, here's why we should go for otaku guys.

http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/sfo/66795671.html

Good one...
And I've got an evidence - when my friend (girl, otaku) read the 7th point from this list, she asked me, when we're going on a convention laugh
There is hope for you, guys biggrin

I'm not an otaku, thank you very much. I'm just... addicted. Run before I get to you, sister dearest.
The wonderful location irony, my, my. Any otakus from Ireland, gimmie a shout biggrin .

Actually and otaku guy wouldn't be bad. All right, he may be more interested in watching anime than talking to me, but hey, gimmie a bishie and I would be more interesting in drooling over him than in listening to someone beside me.
There's another thing. I think that if someone is really that much into some hobby than he/she is well, passionate about the subject. And passionate people are very, very interesting. It's nice to share an interest. And you can alwaysfind another way to 'channel' that passion... You know the flow.

that's almost exactly the same for me
and like Layhe said, i'm not exactly otaku, just incredibly addicted
hmm...i think when most people look for someone to date, they try to find someone with at least one thing in common, so why not a fellow otaku??

but my problem is also with location...
here, the guys that consider themselves an otaku read/watch a really narrow range of manga/anime, or if they aren't like that, then they are closet otakus.
so...
come on out, otakumen biggrin

The thing is, there are a lot of otaku/people who love anime/manga. But they're very scattered. It's not a huge thing outside of Japan. Actually, only a small percentage of people are actually otaku. But they all gather in places like these on the Internet, making anime the most discussed subject online.

In reply to the original post, because there are other qualities I consider more important. Sure, it'd be a plus to have a boyfriend that I could watch anime or read manga with, but it's not what I start out looking for. ^_^ It's much more important to me to find a person who has a personality that meshes with mine, than to find a person who has all the same hobbies I do.

What I have learned from this thread:

Otaku Guys look for (in order of importance):

1. Boobies
2. Anime/Manga
3. Boobies
4. Can communicate on a rudimentary level

Otaku Girls Look for (in order of importance):

1. Hygiene
2. Intelligence/Personality
3. Status (Money, Car, Job) - Seems they are not necessarily looking to see if he has a sports car and high paying job and is super rich guy. But just whether actually has a car and can get a job if he needs one.
4. Manga/Anime
