Ok, I am not sure if I can ask for anime here...but...
Simply - I don't watch anime. I mean - I never did, because I just like to read more... so manga was always my choice number one.
But now I feel like it is really difficult to find some interesting manga to read and I don't really have as much time as I had before to look for some series...(really have no idea wth should I read... like I already read everything or what >.<) so I want to give anime another chance.

So actually... I want to ask you guys... if u have some time... can you pls recommend me something? I can answer whatever questions you have...
Genres I don't like - too much gore... (if it's... let's say normal, it is ok though) and too much... mecha...

Also, maybe if u take a look at my lists, it can help... u can have at least some idea what I've already read...

Oh, I guess... what I really want is:
1.) somebody who starts from zero and becomes really something, really powerful, important, somebody. u can see some development... It doesn't matter if it is fantasy (though i really like that one) or mecha if it has this in it also.
2.) I also like it if there is at least some hint of romance between main character (he or she) and somebody...but it is not necessary if the first point is strong...

if u have some questions, pls ask. ^^

Thank you very much in advance for your time ^.^

The Twelve Kingdoms definately, if you haven't watched it yet...
Epic fantasy, highschool girl transported into a fantasy world where she goes through some awesome character development and later becomes the empress of one of the kingdoms (she is strong in terms of physical strengh from the beginning, but she becomes emotionally strong throughout the series)

It's one of the best - if not the best - epic fantasy there is in anime...

For those just starting anime, mainstream is the way to go.
Code Geass- has a very good plot and plenty of twists that keeps things interesting. Main char goes from student to rebel leader (and even better from there)
Fate/Stay Night- zero to hero thing
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann- hole dwellers to fighting the galaxy
Durarara!!- main chars have interesting alter egos
Macross Frontier- one of the female leads becomes very important

Some of these are mecha but they're good (I'm not a fan of mecha either).

Clannad and Clannad After story. Most touching animes u will ever watch. You get soo attached to the characters throughout the story and trust me you will need a box of kleenex near the end of the series.

Well the anime that fits perfectly is "Zero no tsukaima", and as the name implies the protagonist is nicknamed zero.

"Hajime no Ippo" is great for your first point. It's about a weak boy who learns boxing in order to be stronger. His attitude of never giving up is really inspirational.

I totally agree on this one. Mainstream is definitely one of the best to start watching. If you ask me, I'd suggest Fairy Tail. It's not really a zero-to-hero story but it's really fun to watch. Also, it's mainstream ^^ There are hints of romances, I guess... but I'm not so sure if there's gonna be ANY pairing. Maybe there will be maybe there won't.. I don't really know since what the author did in Rave to Musica and... their enemy(don't remember her name)was
Spoiler (highlight to view)
They ended up together!!
twisted... well, then again, not really. oooh! Rave is also a great anime but it's old however that shouldn't get in your way from watching good(if not great)anime! biggrin *anime dork* eyes

Other suggestions... *ehem*... By the way, when you said "powerful" were you referring to a powerful person as in, in a fantasy genre? well, anyway:

Break Blade(Broken Blade) a zero-to-hero story I have some thoughts on what will happen but won't mention it anymore. I don't want to spoil the fun now ^_^

One of the typical suggestions would be Naruto, is it not?

Summer Wars!
How could I forget! dead D.Gray-Man! I don't know if you could call their moments romance hints but it looks like it smile )

That's all for now. I'll edit if I think of anymore smile

BYE-BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >_< (lucky star reference)

forgot to add the full metal panic series. Funny, action packed, good drama/romance.

Omg... Thank you all very much, I think I don't have to worry about not having anything to watch for a really long time ^_^

I'll let you know what I liked, it all looks interesting, so I'll just start somewhere and then update this and tell what I liked.

@annihilatorangel: powerful... hmm... yeah, let's say in fantasy... u know, like suddenly somebody is good at something, and becomes the best and really something in that particular sphere...

I agree with two of your choices Bakemonogatari and Black Lagoon are really good animes. Just to inform OP a bit

Bakemonogatari---there is if my memory serves me right four females and about 2-3 episodes focus on the main character helping out each of the girls involving the supernatural There is romance as well and for me personally Senjougahara--the first female who is also the love interest of the male lead is one of the best female leads in anime out there.

Black Lagoon--all out action, and really so far there is no romance just a badass female lead Revy.

Durara!! is overrated for me personally though, well atleast it is on MAL. I would recommend Baccano! though made by the same people but involving a lot more violence and romance and well more adult badass characters.

Also Eureka Seven--lots of character development. Male lead is really a nobody at beginning but grows powerful. There is also lots of romance which makes up an important part. Its mecha but its one of the really good ones out there so try and see. Also the opening songs are just brilliant
Also since there is a lot of anime being suggested here I would suggest you go to website myanimelist which has very good info on most of the anime out there.

Just finished watching 12 Kingdoms
Code Geass, Bakemonogatari... I loved them!!! seriously! And mostly 12 kingdoms and Code Geass omg they were awesome! Isn't there something more like that? I loved the main characters!

Full metal alchemist - I read the manga, so I am quite reluctant to start the anime.
Clannad - I cried and cried and cried... it is good, but I cannot watch something like this cuz I am quite a pesimist...
And I am already registered on myanimelist.com so thank you very much for this advice ^^ I really like it. I guess I'll start Durarara or Black Lagoon now and Break Blade^^
