i checked some of the mangas that people listed in their 5 most favorite ever post. First i checked sanctuary ( which i thought was really dumb ) and then i checked beck. I didn't really want to read beck because i thought that a japanese manga about starting a rock band would be really annoying. I am just a bit sensitiv to the topic becuase i played in a few bands and didn't want to see the 15 year old hero of the story picking up an old guitar on the way home, become the jesus of rock, find out his guitar was carved by jimmy hendrix from a piece of holy wood, and so on.
We'll, the problem now is that 2 nights and 26 volumes of beck later i am complety hooked and need something right now curb my manga hunger before i can go to sleep. How the lack of beck eats away my brain,
ohhh the pain!

Its somewhat similar to Beck, but more mature and without the music theme. www.mangascreener.com

this weekend was a seriuos work stopper. I got a book from my brother that i have been waiting a year for, and i spent all of sunday reading it. I was really proud of breaking my reading record. I managed 850 pages in one day. And after i picked up on sleep sonday morning i bombed the next 2 days reading beck. I can read really fast, but i miss alot. But thats ok, because then you can read everything again after a year.

i watched the anime beck and it was really great but i dont think i could ever read the manga cuz it would just feel so... lacking without the music.
by the way bully_jesus if u have the time u should watch the anime (if only for the awsome music)

I'll totally agree with Solaris - watching the Beck anime is extremely recommended, although it does stop around... umm... volume 11?

But the music is just too good. "I've got a feeling" in Beck's interpretation can not, no matter how good the manga is, be captured on paper.

And I also partially learned to play guitar by playing some of the songs from Beck-anime's OST. Too bad I got bored of the instrument too soon...

How heavy is the musik. In the manga they make a lot of stuff look pretty rough and hard. I can't really imagine a anime having real rock musik. If it does i guess i really have to check it out. Would love to hear chiba screaming in the mike.

The "Hardness" can be described as medium. The melodies are really good, and the songs are pretty well-performed.
Chiba doesn't scream into the mike though, he reads rap rhymes which is, basically, his speciality.
The good thing about the soundtrack is that it does not sound like some j-rock, but rather like your usual western rock. Mostly.

actually felt the beck manga was better since you cant har the music of course you build it up to something great in your head then you hear the stuff from the anime and then your like this is it...? this is what's gonna take the world by storm. not saying i didnt like but just that you don't get that feeling like in the manga where everyone is just shocked when they hear kyoki sing and stuff and its like wow he's so good. and that engrish from the anime....
