A Pony Canyon publicity representative who goes by the name "nojitetsu" confirmed on Twitter that director Naoko Yamada announced the release date for the previously revealed K-ON! film: December 3. Yamada made the announcement at Sunday's "Come with Me!!" live event.

The official website has been updated with a new image for the film.

TBS confirmed that the movie will depict a story not told in the television series, even though it will follow the five members of the light music club while they are still attending Sakuragaoka High School. The original television voice cast will reprise their respective roles in the movie. The television network also confirmed that the following members of the television staff are returning for the movie:

Screenplay: Reiko Yoshida
Character Design: Yukiko Horiguchi
Animation: Kyoto Animation
Distributor: Shochiku
