I think they'll end up with a fishman/mermaid version of Nami, basing on a picture Luffy drew ages ago...

His drawings+predictions have been pretty accurate so far (franky and living skeleton brook), so there's a chance that something from the past might still show up..

Or he'll say something in the next few chapters and reveal who/what the next member is...

And as much as I like Bonney, how is she going to escape...Akainu was the one who caught her so no chance of her not having seastone cuffs on her the entire way...unless they're related... There was definitely something weird between Bonney and Akainu, since Mr. Absolute Justice isn't the kind to miss a chance to melt some pirate scum with his lava punch...

Brooke: No drawings but in Chapter 435 Luffy immediately thinks of a living skeleton when the Florian Triangle was mentioned.

The drawings of Luffy's version of fishman was in chapter 69, including his fishman version of Nami.

I can't see Coby joining the crew. As much as he admires Luffy, he would stay and try to fix the Marines rather than abandon them when they fail his ideal. They failed his ideal when he met Capt. Morgan and he still joined. I don't see why they can't have a scientist though. Someone studying the world and the Grand Line and being able to test theories in their travels. I was also thinking a trainer. Someone who would show the Strawhats how to continue to improve and keep in top condition. The only other possibility I can think of is a tactician. Somebody to plan the most effective way to fight battles and help the crew against enemy groups. I also think it will be a woman. That's just a feeling though.

Nami's the de facto Straw Hat treasurer.

For a new Straw Hat though, I doubt one's coming any time soon. Almost every other existing character we know is busy, obligated, or supportive, and we've already have a robot, a skeleton, and a blue nosed reindeer. It might be nice to have a merman or fishman - but Jimbei and Hachi are already really good friends. There's no reason to think why Camie would have leveled up in a fight, and no one else comes to mind. And any new character that might join will have, at the very least, a full arc that simultaneously shows how awesome they are and magnificently furthers the story before they even consider membership.

Heh, it's kinda like how everyone since Zoro has been exponentially harder to obtain as a nakama.

Luffy -> Zorro (Morgan arc) -> Nami (Buggy) -> Usopp & Merry Go (Kuro) -> Sanji (Don Krieg) -> Nami leave and rejoin (Arlong) -> Vivi (Grandline to Alabasta) -> Chopper (Wapol) -> Robin switches with Vivi (Crocodile) -> Merry Go is lost, Thousand Sunny & Frankie joins, Robin & Usopp leave and rejoin (CP9) -> Brooke (Thriller Bark) -> the whole crew splits and rejoins with a whole fleet of allies (Shabody to Timeskip)

Huh, notice that the girls always have a shady past that Luffy and co. have to help overcome before they're truly nakama. They work with a lower tier villain, and eventually fall under the terror of a higher one.

But back on the exponential note, if there's another girl Strawhat, then the eventual story-connected higher tier villain down the line will be NUTS. (Buggy -> Arlong, Crocodile -> CP9+World Gov)

Uh, that is, if that's how Oda plays it.

On another note, when are we going to see Arlong or Enel again?

I think the next to join is either going to be a dog or else someone who's eaten an Inu Inu fruit. A scout/tracker is the only thing I can think of that might be useful to the crew.

So... it seems like the general idea is that a female mermaid will join up next...

But if you count Vivi as a nakama, then there's already 10 (she even got that crappy namaka tattoo on her wrist, so I think it's a safe bet to count her in). Anyway I think there's time for one more new nakama, but after they go into the new world there probably won't be enough time to get more...

The manga is at about 50% done if Oda is to be believed and it would be weird to be introducing new crew members so late (at like 70% or 80% - reader's won't get enough time to get attached to the characters and their flashbacks would take up chapters like crazy, slowing down the main plot).

the kraken would be bad ass. everyother major crew has or had some kind or giant fighter. The giant in blackbeards crew and oars jr. in whitebeards so why not the kraken.

And i still think bonney is the best bet. I don't think it will be a mermaid because don't they have to be like 35 or 40 before they can walk on land. I think that luffy will run into akainu and try to free bonney just because thats the way he is, and akainu is the one who killed his brother so it would be a good opening into the second half. a meeting between them would be good. I think it will happen around the first island they get too after crossing over.

Oh and don't give me the whole, luffy can't stand on par with an admiral thing, because rayleigh could and thats who trained luffy. His brother died but he couldn't use haki, and it seems luffy has mastered it. I son't think he is as strong as akainu but he can definitly survive a fight with him.

I loled at the new chapter though the mermaid princess does fill the prerequisite...and more than one I might add, she's a giant, a mermaid and a girl, oh and she also has a personality unlike the others as well XD.... a very unique and weirdish but cute, wonder if she wants to see the outside world

10th member could be anything.
Although fishman (Jinbei) / Mermaid for the 10th crew member is nice,
would be more interesting if the crew got some kind of giant pet, like luffy's kraken, or a giant sea-king.



Imagine a giant squid towing/carrying/protecting the ship. Kinda like how boa hancock has her snake serpents.

IMO, the crew already has 10 member. You guys might forget but the crew treat Merry/Thousand Sunny as a true member of the crew. Also given the fact that there is no occupation left that Luffy needs in his crew, it's unlikely that there will be a new member b(though personally I'd like Jinbei/Hancock/Perona or even Shirahoshi to join the crew
