Is such a downer that this manga is not going to be made in an anime...it would have been awesome to watch all that action in motion and in color. cry I would've been so excited to watch my favorite manga as an animation, with cute Akihito and sexy Asami in full color... wink

It's not really anime, it's more like a "motion comic"- a step above audiobook but a step below cartoon.

I knew it, they can't possibly make an anime or even an OVA out of this with all the hardcore shit going on. because for one, people would complain and there'd be a shitstorm going on, two, it wouldn't sell as stuff like this caters to very few people in the fandom, third, they'd have to remove alot of scenes with "that", and that'll take alot of time, and effort, and...well, there are alot of reasons, and i'm not even surprised this was just an animix.

The sex scenes in the series don't move the plot and the plots are very strong from volume 2 and on when the arcs become longer so it's possible but it'll be neutered and lose its edge a little.

I always thought that Finder has enough content to be made an anime, since it's not all about love love love sex sex hump hump hump. The Hong Kong arc was exciting and the plot and the storyline is pretty good. It has its place in the BL world as well.

I'm not surprised it only ended as an animix, because it would be hard to adapt the hardcore sex to anime. I tried to compare what really 'qualifies' BL to be made an anime, some of the noticeable examples are Gravitation, Gakuen Heaven and the recent Ai no Kusabi (the first OVA and the remake) and Sex Pistols.

They have to have some sort of 'pull' other than the BL aspect. The BL is still the main plot, but there has to be something else going on otherwise it's just going to be porn. In Sex Pistols case is the madararui. In Ai no Kusabi, the role of society in the love/hate slave/master relationship.

So I always thought that Finder being made into an anime is not a bad idea. I mean Sex Pistols is explicit too, but they can always cut the smut that doesn't move the plot. So the only reason why I think Finder only ended up as Animix is because either they don't have enough material for the anime, or it's the creator's wishes, or there's no anime studio making an offer yet.

Personally, I think it's very possible for Finder to be fully animated in all its glory into an anime. Although judging by your review of the series, I suppose you wouldn't find it quite worthy. Evidently, Finder is 'hardcore'. However, I must disagree that Finder caters to 'very few people in the fandom'. As you should well know, Finder is one of the top-most selling manga in terms of the Yaoi realm, its popularity has reached almost unattainable heights.

And while many, including yourself I suppose, believe that Finder lacks the plot to fuel an anime, I would beg to differ. Finder without all its racy scenes would still remain a wonderful read for me. The main draw for Finder, if you would properly analyse it, is the characters themselves. Yes, there are mangas with a multitude of fanservice and the like- all the smutty, hot-and-bothered goodness. But they have not (yet) entered the spotlight, perhaps because of the lack of attention to character development. Akihito has a gorgeous character arc. He grows with the story, and he really makes one root for him.

And while some, including you perhaps, may find fault with the fact that he's perhaps very masculine, neither is it realistic, fair nor desirable for us to demand all mangakas to subscribe to the practice of feminine, pretty ukes. In fact, Akihito not being portrayed as such makes me like him all the more. Not that I have anything against said ukes, I do like them all the same. And given this, its all the more desirable for Finder to be fully animated, when its perfectly able to inspire such a loyal fanbase.

Often success of an anime or manga, while is in part due to the plot no doubt, is also largely due to the appeal of the main characters. And in my opinion, Finder has stellar characters to provide enough fuel for an anime, so to speak.

Yah, I don't buy the argument that there's not enough substance or content to make an anime. Viewfinder has much more content in regards to story than most shoujo and other fluffy yaoi like Junjou Romantica. For goodness sakes, one could argue that most shoujos don't really have a plot aside from relationship development. Girl meets boy or boy meets boy, face whatever emotional obstacles stand in their way, and then HEA. Marmalade Boy was 10 volumes and had a 76-episode anime with nothing but emotional angst as fodder for every episode. If they can draw out an anime for that long based on just ten volumes, then I'm sure it won't be impossible to find enough material for an OVA from an action based yaoi like Viewfinder.

I have no idea how popular Finder is in Japan, although many people have said it's quite popular in its own right, so maybe it's not popularity that's the problem. I'm behind the theory that it must be the hard core nature of the sex. I would like to say that I'd be okay with them altering our cutting out a lot of the sex in the series if it meant us getting an anime, but then again, who would really want to watch it without all the crazy sex? lol.

Still, one can't help but wish and hope. Though if they ever do decide to release an anime, surrounding hospitals had better stock up on their blood what with all the nosebloods everyone will be having. biggrin
