Ok...there are a lot of manga that are highly popular, but by just reading the sypnosis of them, I have not been complelled to reading them and I probably never will.
These manga are:

High School Debut,
I've heard it's really good, but somehow I can't get over the basic premise of the girl that hires the guy to help her become more feminine...

Red River,
another story that the people tend to like, but I don't like the idea [/spoiler]of her leaving all her past life behind to remain in that other world w/ the guy she loves...[spoiler]

Nana-
the most popular shojo in Japan, yet it's never really caught my attention

Man of many faces-
A kindergardener talking about love that seriously...I think that says it all...

Wish- dunno, doesn't appeal to me..

Suki-
Can't quite wrap my head around what a 32 yr old adult man sees in a childish 16 year old girl....(According to some, Hinata is more retarded than childish....either way, not appealing to me)

I have others to add to my list:
Skip Beat-dunno, sounds fun, and yet there is something holding me back....
Most smut....it annoys me....
Vampire Knight...love triangles are not really my thing....
Arina Tanemura...her stories just seem so cliche....
And most shojo I guess....


Now that I think about it, most of these series are shojo....
These are all series that just by reading the summaries have been completely unappealing to me....


I just found some more/remembered more manga that just sound way too unappealing to me based on the summaries:
Gokujou Bitter Shounen (Marvellous Bitter Boy)...Tsubasa, boyfriend less, 18 gets a job tutoring the son of her mother's superior.perfect boyfriend material but he just so happens to be younger than her. So, she plans to make him into the perfect man! I think that summary says it all, at least for me...

Popular shojos you just don't like?

No for me it seems its only shojos, but I meant manga in general....it can be anything...

the oposite also happens,there are summaries that are veary appealing and the story dont go that good

That summary put me off this series for the longest time - it sounds so dreary and cliched. I'm glad I gave it a chance though cos the two main characters are pretty darn likable.

When I first started reading manga, I had a bit of an aversion towards seinen because of the summaries (and premise I suppose). For example, Pluto by Naoki Urasawa involves robots but I've never been a fan of sci-fi, as well as Takehiko Inoue's Real about wheelchair basketball - a topic I'd hardly find 'fascinating'. Somehow, most of these seinen titles have ended up in my most favourite list though...

To be honest, the summary doesn't necessarily put me off a title but it certainly helps me narrow down my choices seeing as there is so many material out there to wade through. It's not the best way to differentiate between the good and the bad, so I'd usually chect out the reviews instead.

I have to admit the majority of shoujo titles do sound pretty crap

What manga is this? It seems a somewhat interesting premise. I really liked Living Game and it had an older man being in love with a young girl (she was 15 when the manga started).

There are several stories that don't appeal to me by their descriptions. Most of those you listed in fact.

I liked "Man of Many Faces", but then I read it before I read the description (was on a CLAMP/shoujo kick at the time). Of course now, the older Akira is much more appealing (in a slashy way) ;D

On the other hand, I've read Mouse, because of it's description (similar to Man of Many Faces) even though it is smut. Damn funny smut too.

i tend to shy off wherever there is infidelity or unrequited love ......even if the overall story is great

I get turned off every time I read a summary, so now I just check the genres/cover/reviews to decide whether I read something and completely skip the summary. xD

It's kind of biased, but what I usually do is just look at the cover art and go.

That certainly happens sometimes. But there are sometimes when a manga becomes unappealing to me after I read some comments made by others over it

I'm mainly a shoujo reader and the number one thing about a manga description that turns me off is when it mentions that the main girl character just broke up with her boyfriend.

Actually, there seems to be a lot of "just broke up with the boyfriend" shoujo manga. I hate them because the girl always tries to find another guy to replace the one she just lost. She also tends to be a crybaby who depends on the guy too much and thinks that love is all there is in life, when it's not.

Oh and although I haven't read many manga descriptions like this, but if it said the guy just broke up with a girlfriend, that would also turn me off.

One piece - I know it's hugely popular. I know I read manga which is likely very similar. I have bee told again and again by my Japanese students that i absolutely must read it, but the summary just puts me off.

Pretty much any shoujo which seems to involve a girl liking the most popular guy in school, but he doesn't notice her, until he does and overdramatic, predictable and plain boring stuff ensues which usually involves epic amounts of crying from the girl, no kind of independant thought from her, a lot of "I will die without you" nonsense,

I lean towards fantasy/supernatual and I like drama, just not in excess. I've a thing for male leads so it has to have a great story for me to read a female lead, usually because half way through they introduce a love interest and she goes from being a cool, independant strong woman to a weak, love obsessed moron. I also like a bit of angst or darkness. The more complicated the plot the better and I like long manga since I get through them quickly, so I tend to avoid oneshots.

I also look at ratings, categories and reviews when deciding on manga to read. My mood also influences which manga I read. Some days I want action, some days I want vampires, somedays I want angst, some days I want something slice-of-life etc etc etc.

Yeah, I avoided Skip Beat! for the longest time, because I didn't like the sound of the summary. I think it was something about Sho messing around with his manager, and I was like, "Oh-kay, not interested." But then I read Tokyo Crazy Paradise, and then it was "MUST READ EVERYTHING THIS MANGAKA HAS!!" Heh.

Erm....What about the summary to One Piece....? I mean....That blurb doesn't really have a lot to do with what's actually going on the in the story, most of the time......

Anyway. Yeah, there are series like that, but if enough people make them sound interesting, I usually take the plunge. I don't trust blurbs anyway, why let them influence me so much?
