Thought everyone should know this,

Quote from sankakucomplex
The Japanese have been banned from shipping packages of any significant size to the land of the free as the US believes they are likely a bunch of freedom-hating terrorists.

Japan Post, Japan’s main international package delivery service, have announced (less detailed English announcement here) that due to terrorism fears in the USA they have been forced to indefinitely stop accepting any items over 453g (16 freedom ounces) in weight for air shipment to the US or its various island territories.

The size restrictions are apparently intended to limit the size of bomb the Japanese can send.

Companies holding business accounts with Japan Post should in principle be exempt, meaning international retailers operating from Japan will probably be completely unaffected, but small businesses and individuals are now unable to ship packages of any great size to the US in a timely fashion.

Other international postal services in Japan may have different policies (although many are already highly restrictive, refusing to ship figures and so on if they lack CE marks, software, adult items, etc.). The patient should also be able to make use of sea shipment options.

Similar air shipment restrictions in other freedom-hating countries are likely.

The background to the crackdown is that bombs disguised as toner cartridges were shipped to the US from Yemen, and as a result the Department of Homeland Security imposed sweeping restrictions on “certain inbound international air cargo shipments” thought to be high risk, which evidently includes those coming from Japan.

Fortunately, as a result of the policy Americans can now once more freely imbibe the heady air of liberty knowing that the homeland is again secure and it is even harder than ever for any subversive Japanese otaku goods to reach their shores

The PDF link is in Japanese so here's a general summary in English:

After Wednesday, November 17th Japan Post will not accept any shipments to the US if the total package weight exceeds 453g. The only exception is if you are a business with a monthly payment contract with Japan Post.

This new measure affects the US as well as US territories/possessions such as Guam and Saipan.

Apparently this is some sort of terror prevention measure.

(I'm guessing this is related to the recent toner cartridge bombs but I really don't see how Japan is related to Yemen. Then again, I often don't understand government "logic".)

Please pass this info along to anyone you know who may need to get something heavy to the US before Christmas. It looks like tomorrow is their last chance to ship.

too paranoid.
If there are people who really wants to bomb USA, they would look for better way than sending via shipping packages.

This is kinda ridiculous. I could understand if it was from a country that was know to harbor terrorist but from a country like Japan that doesn't. That is just stupid.

God/Budha/"your deity here"-damn it. Now how am I going to get my otaku hentai figures from japan now? Damn you Obama, I want my Asuka PVC Figurines. My neighbor can get his "medications" easily across the border and Obama is worried about "for any subversive Japanese otaku goods"

All large packages from japan are not banned. Some companies can still ship large packages over to the U.S. One of the places I frequent for my anime goods has already posted a notice saying their shipments will still be available and nothing will change.

Not necessarily a foreign threat.
People could get away with such when
everyone is suspecting some turban demolitionists.

There are so many threats within our border, but they decide to completely ban something from another country? HOMEland security already isn't doing its own job right IN out country already. Idiots. I just wish..... sometimes they would focus on the inner rather than the outer....

America. Paranoid as always. You know, they send gundams in thier packages and try to conquer the world with it no They treat other countries really bad, they want Germany to cut down their export to help the american economy; they fight in the near East and now they ban packages.... what´s with them? England has also terrorism but they don´t act like that. They make normal provisons like obersavtion cameras everywhere and removing most of the bins in London to avoid bin bombing.
