Gattaca

I'm doing the whole 365 movies in 365 days thing (although this year has 366), and am watching only movies I haven't seen before for this list. So watched Gattaca and I loved it. Totally recommending it to all of you.

The Revenant is the Oscar front runner of 2016 as of today. I can recommend it and Leo should have won years ago but not for this as pulling a Christian Bale by going all The Machinist on us isn´t what i would call "acting". It´s just suffering for suffering´s sake and hardly charter work. The cinematography is an A+ though.
Star Wars VII didn´ get the nod for best picture, unlike IV back in the day, so i go with Mad Max and the The Room is my runner up. Brooklyn (C+) is the "worst" nominated best picture and i once again saw nearly all movies that aren´t in the short or foreign category.
I also forgot to mention last time that Craig pulled 2nd mediocre Bond flick so he is now 2 for 2. He need to come back for a last redemption as he is the best Bond.

I assume that i am not the only one who binged Netflixe´s hit documentary Making a Murderer. It´s even better than HBO´s similar The Jinx. I occasionally can't believe that the US justice system is still allowed to exists as is. I have seen more sympathetic Nazis give out interviews than the proven to be corrupt (!) judges, policemen and attorneys who show up in it. They even allowed a proper killers to get away just to keep their reputation.

@fovika Gattaca is pretty good but you will never see more movies than me this year as i watch at least twice the amount on average. Go down IMDB´s top 250 starting with 2014 to get the most out of your "challenge". You can even earn Achievements!

For motion pictures its when I rewatched The Great Gatsby.
When it comes to animated movies it's Summer Wars or Minions.

(Number of H-mangas and one-shots: unknown and not included)

Over 180 anime shows watched and there's a vast sea of shows to go.

J/K-drama's 50+ shows watched.
It's Mr to you!

I was 100% convinced that The Big Short would win the Oscar but the equally fine "topic film" Spotlight won. Eh. HBO´s Emmy winning documentary Mea Maxima Culpa is a better exploration of the topic. Poor George Miller btw! 6 Oscars but all for unimportant categories but i am at least glad that "Man vs Bear" didn´t win Best Picture. It´s Iñárritu "worst" by far. Ex Machina´s effects Oscar is an interesting choice too and i now have to figure out how to watch the Best Foreign Language Film Son of Saul. It´s a POV Auschwitz film. Fun!
Anomalisa was the best animated film among the selection but Inside Out´s win was a lock and is fine with me. The Dvd short Riley's First Date is better than the main film. Next year´s selection is destined to be more interesting due to the desperately needed reforms and so was last year´s. Twilight after Dark was also up for an Oscar (in a trashy category) but it at least managed to "win" big at the Razzies. The Razzie Redeemer Award is always my favorite. AAADRIIAANNN, the Oscars snubbed me!

Comic Corner: I have nothing to add on Deadpool besides that i now may get LGBT protagonists in Superhero films, as the Midnighter, and maybe even a Hard-R The Authority adaptation. Batman Bad Blood was style over substance and the writing on the New 52 films needs a reassessment. Lucifer is a fine cop show but has nothing to do with the DC/Vertigo Sandman character. Walking Dead is as infuriating an adaptation as ever.
Arrow recovered after the 2nd half of S03. Flash is as great as ever. Legends of Tomorrow is great fun despite the usual S01 flaws and Supergirl´s Alan More adaptation was only "fine" and i once again quit the show (until the Flash crossover) but i love the main actress. There are tons on the horizon too and a Netflix Punisher (my favorite "Super"-"hero" after Batman) is all but guaranteed too. Zack Snydra now only needs to give me another / more profitable Man of Steal with BvS and i will then have officially died and gone to Comic Heaven!
8 years old me would have never believed me if i told him how good comic adaption fans now have it. Never forget Batman Forever, never...
Edit: I may have been sightly too harsh on Batman Bad Blood and slightly too positive on Legends of Tomorrow. I also forgot to mention that Agent Carter´s second seasons is a stretched out step down from the first.

Films this year:
A while back: Star Wars: TFA. (Even though I had a lot of it spoiled for me).
The 1951 film production of A Streetcar Named Desire 'cos I'm studying it.
Deadpool! smile wink grin
And in a few weeks, I'm gonna be seeing a midnight screening of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
biggrin

This year's gonna be a great one.

Zootopia is a fantastic film, cleverly teaching lessons about stereotypes and prejudices while being incredibly funny and touching.

Batman v Superman I liked that it was dark but still it wasn't that good. Lex Luthor was a boring and stupid villain unlike the comics. The fight between the main characters was intense but stopping after saying mother's name was such a mood killer...couldn't the creators think of anything better to stop the battle? The only thing I loved was Wonder Woman's entry.

Inspector Gadget (1999)

I didn't expect what I watched...even though I've seen its animated version.
Let's just say it's one of those movies that is just ridiculously bad, it's good.

It earned a couple of laughs from me though.

Zootopia
I had not gotten the memo that the main character changed from the fox to the bunny, so I was a bit confused. But it was so detailed I kinda forgot anyway as I tried to take everything in.

47 Ronin - I like the concept, but it was missing out on a lot of things.

Michael Moore´s Where to Invade Next. I am a fan of most of his films/books and he delivered on of his best works, even if the majority of the presented worthy causes are basically standardized in Germany. We also show up for a longer segment and the facts about the no-punches-pulled Holocaust educations in our schools are very real and well done. I also have to agree with him on the 21st century slavery bit with America´s insane "War on Crime" and the broken prison system.
Oh yeah, about my adopted country! The German co-produced mini-series Deutschland 83 is one of the few good cinematic offerings from my country in years and highly comparable to the just returned The Americans. It´s even set in Bonn, where i had my apprenticeship.
HBO´s Titz and Dragons just returned too and the magic may be gone it seems. It´s still technically a "good" show and i look forward to book 6/7 but none of them will be appointment tv/reading. A shame, yet the many mistakes of book 4/5 and S05 we just too much...

I noticed that i forgot to recommend 2015´s The Lobster during my Oscar writeup. It´s one of the craziest films i saw in years. Nuff´ said.

@strixflash Lex (Jr.) could only have been more comic accurate if he had longer hair, a beard and an Australian acceptant (yep!), just as he had during the Death of Superman arc.
Even his abusive father is ripped out of the comic but i like that you are looking forward to other offerings from DC, despite your misgivings. The Martha scene was another highlight for me and nearly turning Batman into Joe Chill was pretty ballsy. In Snydra i trust!
