The official website of Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine has revealed that an anime adaptation of Hiromitsu Takeda's Maken-Ki! manga is in the works.

The romantic comedy centers around Takeru Ōyama, a boy enrolled in an elite school where the girls (and boys) fight with mysterious powers called Maken. The student body includes the enigmatic girl Kodama, a girl named Inaho who calls herself Takeru's fiancée, and his childhood friend Haruko.

The manga launched in Dragon Age Pure magazine in 2007, but it has been running in Monthly Dragon Age since last year. The fifth compiled book volume shipped in October.

Sucks that this gets an anime, but Vagabond and Zetman don't...

It needs to stay that way. 90% chance it'll suck, anyways. :'B

Especially with Vagabond, it'd be hard to keep up the production quality over all those episodes.

I know, I know. It's just that out of all the manga that should get an anime, why this one? I mean, I'm not as over-the-top about Maken-Ki as I was when I wrote my comment about it, but it's still an unbelievably generic manga. Makes me wonder if the anime producers are trying to go the dull, safe route with this one...

Musashi allready have tons of animated adaptations
not to mention movies and TV[like the awesome Musashi from 2k3]

Zetman is just not that...i dont know
the whole Cell/Batman/take-urself-serious-seinen combination would just look silly in animated form

and with Maken-Ki! is it very easy to get high view-ratings
tv likes money
preteen/teenagers like boobs
boobs sell
boobs it is

Yeah, that's what I figured with the whole "dull, safe route" that I mentioned earlier. Sex sells and it's always sold, so target that.

Really sucks that companies in Japan rarely take chances now with anime adaptations, but what can you do?

As generic as it'll be I'm sure it will at least be entertaining. I mean There is some real action in it so there should be more going for it than most of the ecchi stuff that has come out over the last couple seasons *cough* Asobi ni iku yo *cough* (I won't lie I still watched it even with the horribly cliched plot and lack of any real action...)
