The February issue of Kadokawa's The Sneaker magazine is announcing on Monday that the two volumes of Nagaru Tanigawa's Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyōgaku (The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya) light novel will ship on May 25, 2011. According to the announcement, the two volumes will ship simultaneously in Japan and "the world."

This 10th Haruhi Suzumiya light novel story will be the first new one in four years. The last story in the series was Suzumiya Haruhi no Bunretsu, which shipped in 2007. The light novels inspired two television anime seasons, a film, two net anime series, and several manga adaptations.

The Sneaker had said in April that the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint would publish the next novel within the year. Kadokawa later clarified that "within the year" meant within 12 months of the announcement, not within the year 2010. However, the new May 2011 date is after even the clarified schedule Kadokawa had laid out for itself.

I don't think Nagaru Tanigawa understands the gravity of the work he has created. A four year hiatus would sink any other light novel. Lucky for him, Haruhi isn't downed so easily.

That said, this next novel better be nothing short of amazing. I'd hate to see forums flooded with comments like "we waited four years for THIS!?" Of course, regrettably, no matter how amazing this next novel is, someone WILL say it.

Anyway, guess I'll have to re-read "Dissociation", being that I forgot it's finer points.

He's probably already set for life and just wants to complete it for closure...

Truthfully, I wouldn't care if he ditched Haruhi to make something more interesting. If he doesn't 'want' to write Haruhi right now, he shouldn't, since that's when you start churn out garbage no one wants to read.

That said, the work he's put out since he essentially dropped Haruhi is... hmmm.... an annoyingly 'cloak & dagger' manga about some dude who screws his blood related sister... regularly?

Uhhh...

Ok, Kagerou Meikyuu isn't all that bad, but I can't decide if it's brilliant, or just the work of someone trying to sound brilliant.

Have they said if these are the final novels? I remember reading that the 10th was going to be the last one (rumors maybe?), but I haven't read anything like that recently.
