I've just realised this, but...
So far, of the confirmed goddess candidates, there are some name relations to divine figures in various cultures/religions:

Nakagawa Kanon - Kannon, buddhist "goddess of mercy"
Ayukawa Tenri - Tengri, mongolian god*
* a bit of a stretch; so alternatively: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenrikyo

Who are the other goddess candidates?
Ayumi
Chihiro
Tsukiyo
Shiori
Yui

Can we find any name relations for any of those?

here is a list with female goddess in different cultures. tell me if you find some names

tsukiyo is defintely the japanese moon god tsukiyomi

try to look at the surenames, too
the name list then is:
takahara ayumi
nakagawa kanon
shimomiya shiori
kosaka chihiro
kujyō tsukiyo
goidō yui
ayukawa tenri

but the names are more telling names
just type in shiori or ayumi in wikipedia cool

Tsukiyo isn't a goddess, well she might be but not the goddess of the moon. They listed the gods already and they are all Roman goddesses/gods not Japanese. Tsuki does mean 'moon', but she isn't the moon goddess because Tenri is already the moon goddess. 'Diane' or 'Diana' is the Roman counterpart of 'Artemis' the greek goddess of the moon. Artemis is the younger sister of Apollo. And Apollo's name stays the same as his Roman counterpart.

Hi maplegirl102, that's not the point. You've missed the point of this thread entirely.

Of the goddess candidates, many have names (THEIR names, the candidates' names, NOT the goddesses' names) that are related to divine figures in cultures around the world.

It has nothing to do with the actual goddesses in TWGOK; which, although they share names with roman goddesses/gods and are obviously making a connection to those mythical figures, they are, in function, completely unique to the TWGOK universe - they are NOT the roman goddesses or gods themselves.

In summary, the goddess VESSEL/CANDIDATE, not the goddess itself.

Hello Harimau, my reply was towards ShadowSakura's remark on
Quote

But, of course it doesn't mean that Tsukiyo isn't a goddess I was just trying to tell her/him that Tsukiyo can't be the japanese god Tsukiyomi.

S/he's not saying that. We're talking about name relations.
Nakagawa Kanon - Kannon, buddhist "goddess of mercy"
Ayukawa Tenri - Tengri, mongolian god, or: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenrikyo
Kujyō Tsukiyo - Tsukiyomi, moon god

That's the point to this thread, no? Finding a name in humanity's vast mythology that corresponds to the name of the goddess candidates, confirmed and otherwise - trying to read into the author's intentions.

Also, looks like Tsukiyo's confirmed as harbouring the goddess Vulcan.

So, so far the theory's holding up.
