I have a a dog which is a shitzu, a fish tank, used to have a snow rabbit (lived 9 years which kinda suprised me), two turtles, and now a hamster. I didn't really take care of them myself, and left them to my grandparents or something, but i did take care of my dog, btw her name is cookie.

They are indeed illegal in CA. I had one for a while, until my mom got mad at me and called animal control. Then they came and euthanized my little buddy and gave me a fine. It was over 10 yrs ago, so I don't remember the cost of the fine. But it did cost me my relationship with my mom.

I believe that they were originally illegal because the huge egg and poultry industry in CA. A family of Ferrets can decimate a Chicken farm in a matter of days. Plus they breed like weasels and could overpopulate and destroy our delicate ecosystem.

Currently, I don't own any pets. I'm not really an animal person anyways, though I did have a bunch of fish in a large tank for a while. But about a year ago they all died and my parents didn't want to get anymore after the last string of deaths.

From what I read recently when one of my boys wanted a ferret, that's a fear/myth, because domesticated ferrets actually die pretty quickly out in the wild. Once people get that kind of idea, though, it's hard to fight it, esp. since some pets *do* cause trouble when they're released into the wild. no

Well, I don't know how accurate the fear is, but I do know that the poultry farmers lobbied against ferrets for that reason. It's sad and unfair because Frantic (my Ferret) was one of the smartest and most loyal pets I ever had. no

There are wild ones, and domesticated ones, and they're quite different (from what I understand). All the ones sold as pets come from generations & generations of "farm" breeding, so they've lost a lot of the skills/instincts/whatever that would let them survive in the wild.
