I want to just say I hate Factory Farming and how they slaughter there animals. Now I am not saying don't eat meat it's wrong I am just saying we need to think about how we treat our animals and we must mae sure when we slaughter are animals we do it quick and painless.

I am sure many of you are aware of this already but to be honest I don't see anyone caring enough to do anything about it. UI thought I'd better not go on to much about it and just give you links otherwise you may just get bored.

So what are your thoughts on factory farming and the inhumain way of slaughtering them?

I agree with you, and given the choice, I always pick the meat that I believe is the most humanely produced. There was a time when I went so far as to not eat any animal products, but that seems to be less healthy for me, and also I realized that unless there's an economic incentive for companies to treat their animals humanely, conditions won't improve.

I think we all KNOW where meat comes from and basically HOW it gets to the store and in our stomaches. But I, like a lot of people, choose not to think about it.

Meat is meat no matter where it comes from and how its killed. Surely given the choice I probably choose the "more humane" path but not all of us have the finances and access to sustain such a lifestyle.

This is a matter of needs and wants. There are some people who WANT and NEED to eat certain foods prepared a certain way. Most people don't, in such a case, they wouldn't bother wasting money on something, when it comes down to it, is basically the same as the cheaper option.

Human beings are mammals. We are animals. We have to eat to survive. Out the the animal kingdom, the lion doesn't think about what the best way to kill his prey in a humane way. He just does it. The end result is what counts. Is this a case of animal rights? Nope. It's just nature.

There are lots of things wrong with the world but I don't think Factory Farming is such a big issue. Save your money and go save World Hunger or Child Labor.

For starters don't compare factory farming to lions. Lions don't know how to kill humainly because they are not human also lions do not force bread there prey into large quantities and keep them in cages. Lions do not kill for any other value than to survive. Also we do not need to buy as much meat as we do.

Also I think it is important that you understand that although we are an animal we are not primitve and we KNOW how to kill humainley so why don't we? It just seems stupid to go oh but a lion kills it's prey this way. Again we are not like any other animal we can look after our animals until the time is right to slaughter them and we can do so humainly.

The amount of food we waste in this country shows that we do not need to buy the amount of meat that we do.

Sorry if I have repeated myself a lot but that is what I need you to understand.

Like E-chan52 said, I'm aware where it comes from, I just choose not to think about it.

I also hope that my meat is from a happy herd of cows. But then like E-chan52 said, I just choose not to think about it.

But just because you don't think of it does not mean it is not there. And I seriously do think it is an issue that we need to adress. The problem is it is people who don't think about it which just implies that no one cares about the animal they are eating. We all need to eat that goes with out saying but we as humans can prevent such cruel events from happenening.

Like I said before we don't need to buy the amount of meat products we do it is just out of our own greed that we do. Most of what we buy goes to waste anyway which is a waste of money so I don't understand the argument that oh it is to much money to buy free range.

I agree with the OP, but it's understandable why people don't care (though it doesn't entirely justify the matter).

This. Yes, it'd be nice to take the moral high ground, but I'm sure most people wouldn't like to burn a hole in their pockets in order to achieve that. Since the costs involved in rearing livestock in a more "cruelty-free" environment are rather high, it's not financially viable for the producers to cut their prices. The high price tag would be passed onto us consumers, and if you're ever given a choice, you're most likely to go for the cheaper option if they taste essentially the same.

As for the food wastage, maybe us Brits just have too much spare cash lying around... or we just stock up for convenience sake?

I'm sure a happy herd of cows would like to roam around on a field instead of ending up in our stomachs^^. (Or have their leftovers mashed into burgers dead )

EDIT: Just read your previous comment, but do most of our waste consist of meat anyway? I'm not sure myself. And yes, it is a shame people don't care enough about things unless it directly impacts them. (Bit of a hypocrite here - the most I've done is buy free range eggs...)

I think its a matter of education how much you really care and what you do at the end. Because the morals of every human on earth are different there will never be a consent to this matter. Mistreating animals is wrong. Factory Farming is mistreatment for animals AND for humans, there are so many chemicals and drugs used to keep the animals alive and make them grow faster and bigger that no one can tell me that we aren't affected at all. Thats only my two cents for ppl that think that "only animals" are effected and eg. world hunger or child labor should be a more important topic because it involves humans. If I think that my baby niece gets to eat such contaminated meat, it makes my simply sick.

However I for my part to care about the animals. Like QuasarX I also didn't eat meat for a while. Now I eat meat again but much less than in the past. Factory Farming wouldn't be necessary if we wouldn't be so wasteful with the resources we have.

oh, come on. humanity needs much more than it could be produced if the cows would have cow paddocks. i think it would be better if some of the meat would go to the persons in the third world, but therefore a huge part of the persons in wealthier countries need to become vegetarians or everyone would have to eat less meat. good luck with that

Also by the way just so that people know I don't live with a wealthy family my parents earn less than 15 grand as year. Guess what we buy free range chicken and we are not in debt because of it. Also I live with 4 other familey members so I really don't want people talking about how financially cripling it is to buy these free range animals.

Also on average people with familey waste about £680 a year on food waste. So yeah I really don't think there is a financial excuse here. Also think about how much money most people spend on crap that we don't need soo... yeah I don't see the argument there.

Exactly and it does has been tested and most people prefer free range non factory farmed meat.
