I'm a sucker for unconventional romances. This is one romantic plot that I've always thought was kind of adorable. Basically, its an age gap romance where it starts out with one of the leads crushing on an older character. After many years, he or she is still in love with the older character and it actually develops into a romance.

The best example is Baby Love. The girl's been in love with the guy (forgot the names) since she was 6 and he was 12 (I think).

I'm not sure if Dear Mine could count since
Spoiler (highlight to view)
satoko was pretty young herself (6) when Fuuma who was 2 fell in love with her.

Kimi wa boku no taiyou da by Toujou kazumi. I've only read Chinese scanlations so I apologize for just using pronouns. An 18-year-old college student takes in her older brother's 3 children after his death and their mom left. The oldest is a 10-year old boy who had been taking care of his two younger brothers. The 10-year-old ends up having a crush on the girl. Not incest :
Spoiler (highlight to view)
he was adopted by her older brother when his parents, friends of her brother, died
Both try to take care of the younger kids by themselves.

Its a two volume manga. Volume 1 revolves around the kids moving in, the boy's crush, and the girl's relationship with her boyfriend. Volume 2 is set 4 years later, and is about their growing feelings for each other. Both try dating other people.

Any recommendations. No smut please.

Ueda Rinko is fond of this premise:
Chupa!
Super Express Hiyokko

It's touched on in Bokura wa Itsumo:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Saeka had a crush on her calligraphy teacher when she was 12 and he was in college. They started going out when she turned 16. The series is ongoing, though, so there's a possibility they won't last.

Though we never get to see the characters in Card Captor Sakura grow up other than the main couple,
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Rika and Terada-sensei have been (pre-?)engaged since she was 10.
roll eyes

Hyakunen Renbo is built on this as well, except Louis only stayed as a kid for a portion of chapter 1.

Your mileage may vary, but Shugo Chara! would fit if the ending wasn't an open one.

I've read hyakunen renbo. I thought it was too short, but still good.

I also forgot to mention Miriam. THere's no signs of her having a crush in the first part when she is still 8.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Its implied in the oneshot that she was starting to have feelings for him when she was 13

Aren't all the girls, including the one he ends up with, the same age as him?

Kiss I think she's in love for several years with her piano teacher and then one day she decided to kiss him
Mademoiselle Butterfly
Oh! My Darling Childhood friends
Merupuri
Rouge Noir guy likes his tutor and then, several years later, they meet again
Silver (FUJITA Kazuko) although it was one sided at first
Mimoza de Sarada is similar to Dear Mine except that it's reverse. The lead is a cute girl. So maybe?
Ingènuo although it wasn't until later that you understand their relationship.

There are several ones that I'd really love to recommend since this topic definitely piqued my interest.

Kure-nai
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
A dispute mediator still in his 1st year of highschool is suddenly to become a bodyguard for a 7 year old girl from an extremely wealthy plutocratic family. The two develop an unsurpassed bond while the story focuses on this bodyguard's interactions with the dark side of society.
Note: Very well thought out storytelling that encompasses emotions and morals despite being a shounen manga.

Sono Te wa Atatakai
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
A lock smith encounters a run-away girl from a wealthy family and the two discover a new source of happiness from their unfortunate pasts.
Note: Truly as heartwarming as the title claims even if it is a short-lasting one-shot.

Wasureyuki
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Another light-hearted and slightly confusing one-shot about a dull-looking highschool boy and his inner struggles about a certain situation. His most "hated" person is about to move to America, as he wishes for her blessings secretly. A tear-jerker for those who can read into depth of literary works.

Sunny
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
A very intriguing story about a young adult "taking care" of three highschool girls while living in a house filled with melancholic memories. Too little is known as of now from online scanlations but there are signs of romance between an uncle and his niece. And to add spice to the story, glimpses of adultery between the protagonist and his brother's wife are hinted. Will the tragedy repeat itself? That is for the light novel readers to know as you read on from the point the scanlations stopped.

Shinigami-sama ni Saigo no Onegai wo
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
A mystery/supernatural series about a shinigami and her sibling trying to find out the truth behind their family's massacre. The romance between the protagonist and his sister could arguably be the centre of the plot for all the incest lovers out there.

Whoah. Can't believe its been a year since I posted this. ANyway, still, thanks for those suggestions. I actually started reading Kure-nai a while back. pretty interesting.

One thing I wanna add though, if anyone else still wants to add, it'd be better that the older character is reluctant at first to be with the younger character since he/she still sees the younger character as a kid. It makes it more interesting. It adds some nice development

I second Miriam, it totally follows the reluctant older male idea plus it's a super fun read.

Also I recently read Hajimari no Niina. It was really short but cute, and the older male also sees her as a child for a long time.

I'm pretty sure both of these have a pretty big age gap, maybe like 15 years.

Rising Impact - has it both with a younger male and with a younger female
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Both couples end up happily married by the end of the series, but there is time skip and there isn't very much development for most part.
Unfortunately most of the manga is untranslated...
