Quote from Isara
When I think about death, sometimes I am so scared I have to force myself to think about something else to remain calm.
To me, the horrifying thing about death is not the moment of dying but what might or might not be afterwards.
Which means no, I am not afraid of dying but yes, very afraid of death.
The event itself might be terrifying (suffocating, burning...) but in spite of my tremendous fear I am still very curious about the act of dying itself.
Seconded. I have almost the exact same opinion as you on this topic.
i really don't like the idea of death, no matter what version you believe in.
I myself am an atheist, so I don't believe there is anything after death, only nonexistence. Which really isn't the most soothing of ideas to be honest. Although I do wonder how it feels to not exist. But I wouldn't want to experience that for too long a time, maybe just a day or so.
The idea of heaven or hell doesn't really pull me in either. how does an eternity of the same place and the same people seem interesting to you? Be it eternal suffering or eternal happiness.
Then theres the option of reinccarnation, I don't like this one either. Suppose you do reincarnate after death, you won't be born as you. That which makes you you, your memories, experiences and emotions, died with you body. Your not yourself anymore. Only your conciousness moves to another body, the rest is lost forever. So in a way it is very similar to the nonexistence thing. Though in the end, if I had to choose one of these, I'd choose reincarnation, I find it the more pleasant one of them all.
