Yes i support it. Some mother fu**ers need to die on this earth. Die a slow painful death while squeezing lemon juice and sprinkeling salt into their wounds made by a rusty spork.

Hey didn't some woman get off killing because of PMT? After reading some of this stuff looks like you girls are in need of Valium.

Several things about death penalty were so wrong in doing so and supporting it is like shooting ones foot for a splinter.

just no good eyes

@Elairz: You say that the capital punishment is used as a prevention tool for the masses. However, it is not necessarily true that crimes are prevented by them. Polls, over the years, have shown that capital punishment may or may not be effective. Also, have you noticed that the capital punishment exists on countries with a high criminal rate? Have you also noticed that the crimes in these countries haven't exactly been reduced?

try and look from this perspective. imagine what it would be if there no capital punishment. the crimes rate would be even higher. well, probably would if there are no better alternative than capital punishment. and also i think there no more practical and harsher punishment than death. of course torture would be worse, and killing your whole family along with you is even worse. however thats too barbaric. the other alternative i could think of is cryogenic(did i spell it right?) confinement though it only exist in sci-fi world as of now.

Would it now? That cannot be known without trying, but since the various countries with capital punishment around the world would rather not test something apparently so dangerous we may never know the answer. The only alternative to capital punishment is life imprisonment, but it has been proven times and times to be ineffective. Why? More than probably because it's not enforced too well. Criminals just get worse if, I say, they succeed in escaping. If life imprisonment, or the prison itself for that matter, was better enforced then there would be no need for capital punishment. Also, we need to take into account that even capital punishment is not instant. Sometimes even decades pass before the accused get their "expiration date". At that time, a really dangerous criminal could still, by the same token as life imprisonment, probably escape. And with the added incentive of "do or die".

So rare? You better back up what you claim. I know one thing for sure, DNA testing has freed people who were death row. What if this new forensics tool took a bit longer to be implemented? What about the people who were executed before then?

First of all, thanks for the links biggrin
So there are 124 innocence released from death row....out of how many, again? >.< And if you were to refer to their table, 1973 would be the oldest innocence release recorded. That's 34 years ago. So thats....an average of ~3 a year. 15 out of 124 released through means of DNA evidence, a whopping ~12%?
Not rare indeed....

Again, you seem to think executions cost little to no money, but keeping them in prison for the rest of their lives costs more?

Yes. Hey man, I'm not speaking about America only. There are many countries without death penalties. I'm voicing my opinion particularly about Australia's. They get luxury inside prison. No, they don't have a secret money printing machine, they have to taxpayers to pay for them. Cool huh? Sure it would cost a lot of money to send someone to death row, but paying for the life of many convicts would cost more don't you think? Who knows what their life expectancy may be. It saves money in the long run.

There is little to be gained from executing criminals, and much to be lost executing innocents. Even with you saying it's rare, you cannot deny that it has happened. What are you going to say to those "rare" innocents who were executed? "I'm sorry, but your life is worth less than the deaths of these killers we have to execute...in the name of justice?" Give me a break.

Yeah.....I'm not gonna repeat myself again >_> so I'll give you a break biggrin

P.S You're starting to remind me of Drama_Sage roll eyes

@Mamsmilk: You say that in your enraged state, you would kill the criminal without thinking about the consequences. Well, that's how the human mind works. Everyone is calm and can think logically as long as they are not the victims of a particular case, but have them suffer the loss of a relative and they will be unable to listen to reason. Hell, I doubt that anyone would be cold enough to not feel even a slight amount of rage when a dear person of theirs is murdered.

No, I did not say that I'd kill the criminal, I am against capital punishment.
I said that I would kill anyone.

In fact, today there was a school shooting somewhere here in Finland
in some high school.

I think I did a debate on this in the 10th grade. I forgot which side I was on.

It's like that bummper sticker I saw once, "We kill people that kill people to show that killing people is worng."
I think it was something like that.

That's a good bumper sticker.. eyes

I'm against the death penalty.. Why? Because first of all..:

1) When someone is dead, and later has been proved to be innocent.. You can't suddenly say.. "Oh, We'r sorry for killing you.. Our sincerest apologies..You're a free man now.." Oh, wait, but s/he's dead.. So, it doesn't mean sh!t to the person now.. >.<

2) The death penalty doesn't even decrease the criminal rate.. Which is kind of one of the main reasons of death penalty.. >.< After all, most criminals aren't afraid of death.. They've usually seen far worse.. They wouldn't be in the 'crime' business, if they didn't know that it could get them killed..

3) I don't know if it's true.. >.< But I assume that the death penalty is more likely to be executed on colored people.. So that's not fair at all.. But correct me if I'm wrong..

4) If a person gets the death penalty, it increases the chances of him/her making attempts to escape.. while if they just went into prison, those kind of chances would decrease..

5) Final and last argument..the death penalty is just immoral.. And contradicts everything that humans stand for..

Well, the system is set up to execute the poor and uneducated. It just so happens that there is another system in place to keep the colored people poor and uneducated.....but there are plenty of poor whites who get locked in the system too.

I'm only speaking of America of course.... I don't know enough about other countries social policies.

It costs more to put someone through the death penalty than it does to keep them in jail for life.

MANY wrong people were put to death, then found to be innocent (As stated by someone else).

The death penalty is a fast and painless death. Which would you rather be, Locked up in a maximum security cell for 50 years of your life, with absolutely nothing to do. Or have a fast and painless death?

I think the penal system needs some sort of overhaul though (Look at how much it costs to run). More prisoners should have the option of being able to work in manufacturing jobs (Just look at how much the USA's manufacturing is tanking, because unions demand higher pay) for below minimum wage.

That would be a win for everyone. Prisoners would get a head start on being re-integrated with society, we get more tax money (Which covers our prison bills), and our market gets better.

They say the death penalty make the state a murderer. But life in prison makes the state a gay dungeon master.

Um yeah.... except that manufacturing in this country is tanking because the jobs are already being outsourced to SE Asia. No reason to take the few jobs we have left and give them to convicts. Especially when we have regular, law-abiding citizens already trying to make ends meet in our overinflated economy.

As for the prisons bills - they are the result of 1. US bad drug policy. 2. Corrupt politicians. 3. Corrupt prison administration.

The whole thing is outdated and definitely needs an overhaul, but forcing prisoners to work is not the way and breaking the unions will definitely not make for a better America

Why are jobs being outsourced? Because Asia works for cheaper. I'm pretty sure the millions of prioners would work for just as cheap. Subtract the shipping costs of the finished product, and I'm pretty sure the USA could revive its failing market.

I never said removing unions would make a "Better America", but unions sure as hell killed the manufacturing market, by not worrying about outsourcing.

I do agree with the corrupt politicians/bad drug policy idea though. Mike gravel for 2008!
