I second anything by John Williams, the soundtrack to The Social Network, as well as the soundtrack to Lord of the Rings.

I would also like to add the soundtrack to Pan's Labyrinth by Javier Navarrete. It's haunting and beautiful.
Slumdog Millionaire
The Color Purple
The Village (yes the one directed by M. Night Shamalan. I love the soundtracks to his movies. In The Sixth Sense, the music director used samples of different types of animals breathing amplified in the music)
The Notebook I <3 Aaron Zigman
Black Swan The soundtrack to this movie... is so wonderfully disturbing. They used music from Swan Lake and warped and distorted it. It's amazing.
Into the Wild Lord Vedder does it once again. The music in the movie is awesome smile
Blood Diamond It's so epic and uplifting!!!
Inception Hans Zimmer is just, wow
Amadeus of course the music in this movie is Mozart's but his music is so lovely. I think once you get into movie soundtracks you start looking into classical music too... at least that's what I did lol

I'll add more if I can remember more. So yes, I adore all the soundtracks you mentioned as well as these above so I hope you enjoy. Of course, you should watch the movies first if you haven't seen them. biggrin

Edit: I just remembered, the soundtrack to Code Geass EPIC

Yup, The Piano, Amélie, The Lion King, The Last of the Mohicans, Pirate of the Caribean, Lord of the Rings, Death Note... they all have great OSTs
I would like to add:
Beck
Blood+
Inuyasha
Berserk
VHD: Bloodlust (especially A Bit(e) Of Hope and The Promise)
Wonderful Days a.k.a. Sky Blue
Dragonheart (Randy Edelman)
Brokeback Mountain (Gustavo Santaolalla)...
Lady in the Water (James Newton Howard,; he also made I am Legen, Pretty Woman, The Sixth Sense...)
The Carnival of the Animals

Hans Zimmer, John Williams they are awesome
And also James Horner (Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Troy, The Mask of Zorro...), Nobuo Uematsu (I know he does FF but still great music) and Joe Hisaishi (especially Summer from Kikujiro and most anime movies that Hayao Miyazaki made), they all rock!! biggrin

These ones have some positively crazy stuff:
Immediate Music (Believe, A Hero Among Us, Armed By Faith, Serenata Immortale, Preliator...)
Two Steps from Hell (Heart of Courage, Moving Mountains, Freedom Fighters...)
Future World Music (Eternal Love, Dream Chasers...)
E.S. Posthumus (Nara, Pompeii, )

I absolutly love the soundtrack for the movie 300, especially " Message for the Queen" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmWBUIhhaP4

Also I love the soundtrack for Memoirs of A Geisha and The Twilight Saga. Really beautiful music.

- Donnie Darko (Score) and also Donnie Darko (Original Sountrack) (I'll suggest the score to the OP)
- Married to the Mob Soundtrack. I love all the song on that.
- Music and Lyrics Soundtrack.

At the moment that's all that's coming up to my mind. Those are the movies where the music just fits perfectly, and listening to it by themselves is also a treat to me.

I'd second Sucker Punch. While the movie was barely watchable the soundtrack is GREAT. During the opening credits plays "When the Levee Breaks" (Led Zeppelin version) and later ... Just as sarah-eats-cupcakes said, it's mostly (if not solely) covers, but really good ones - they are played completely differently than the originals. "Sweet Dreams" (Eurythmics, cover by Emily Browning), Search and Destroy (The Stooges cover by Skunk Anansie) and my absolute favorite "White Rabbit" (Jefferson Airplane covered by Emiliana Torrini).

The same -weak movie, great soundtrack - goes to the Natural Born Killers, but for me because of a completely different reason than what secretdesires said: for me it's not NIN but L7, Patti Smith (by the way she did also a great cover of White Rabbit on her album Twelve)...

The second one will not be a movie but a duet : composer and director. Meaning Elliott Smith (composer) and Gus Van Sant (director).
First movie that comes to mind would be Elephant. about Columbine High School massacre. The soundtrack is mostly classical music, Beethoven's "For Elise" and "Moonlight Sonata" are combined into the story in such a way that gives you the creeps...
And in Paranoid Park and My Own Private Idaho you get to hear some of the Elliott Smith's songs: Angeles, White Lady..

When it comes to anime : sountracks by Yoko Kanno!
