oh by the way everyone, to all the US (well maybe international, not sure about their shipping policy) manga buyers, you should start a free membership at justmanga.com and start buying there. good prices, nice point reward system (all anime-related stuff, pvc figures, plushes, apparel, etc..), free shipping for any order over 40 bucks (pretty fast too, usually less than a week), large selection, plenty of promotions (just last week they were giving free rozen maiden gachapon figures for every order over 25$, this week, free ouran host keychains for any order), and after 3 orders, you can join the 555 club for free, where a buncha manga becomes only $5.55 for its members.

justmanga.com is the best!

Seems like you're an advertiser of the site.. laugh

He should be!
Tell the world to save on manga!
Good job!!

Sadly I live in Canada and have a fairly large manga collection (all from chapters =3) and I bet i've spent over $300 on it...
I think it's worth it though because I read WAY more online, and I only buy the ones that I think are worthy.

I stumbled on Fruits Basket, and i've refused to read them online. Even though my friends have and they are dying to tell me the end. I've also done the same with Vampire Knight =). I only buy the worthy and the shits are left on the shelf with some crappy mangas called "LIFE" >_>

I stick to one manga series at a time, a series usually releases 1 manga every few months usually 3-5 a year so thats how much manga I buy a year, its less expensive that way. I have only been reading a little more then a year and I own about 30 mangas though some were gifts ect. but really manga costs between $5-10 thats not all that bad. For a book thats actually cheap.

if i didnt follow this, id be one poor boy

so...i use the alternate method...even though i should support the creators, but oh well

I'd just buy a few volumes to support the publisher, if i really like the manga series, and read the rest online.

actually i used to buy the official one to suport the mangaka but in here(Indonesia) the translation is suck and in here there also many the pirate version of manga. they just get the manga from internet, print it and sell it like the official one(actually i feel shame to say this but this is reality in my country).although there is many official release too but nowadays the translation are so horrible so i don't buy official release anymore.
and back to the topic the price of manga can be expensive depend on the where the manga is publish and of course the buyer itself, by the way the price of the berserk volume is insane unless it furnished with gold or the last ver of berserk in the world i will never pay that sum of money for a single volume

It's not possible to see if the shop's other items are just as equally high priced. Couldn't find what they were.. funnily enough, no mention of cheap prices in there feedback, just good service and delivery biggrin ...

Wasn't expecting a serious topic to come out of my not so serious picture, but it's nice to see it has generated some interest and discussion.

At $9~$12 a volume, something that can be very thoroughly read in 30 min, that's a pretty pricey piece of entertainment. It follows the same vein as anime being too expensive. This isn't about screwing publishers, the authors, or anyone else out of money, but there's a big difference with someone have the means to follow 5 or 6 series a year to following 10 to 12 a year. I still buy manga, but only during those sales from my local bookstore where the manga tends to be almost the same price as what you would pay for in Japan. Now if were that price all the time I would probably spend a lot more than I currently do now.

The reason so many of us read scanlations is because we have to pay 10 dollars for a comic, but in Japan, they only have to pay 4-5 dollars.

I buy the Japanese ones.

For $150 you could buy 45 volumes of Doraemon in Japanese, but you could only buy 15 English comics. So I say the companies are ripping us off.

That's why I hate the publishers, they don't even include the dustjackets or the colour pages. I'm paying 6 dollars more, and I'm getting worse stuff!

Inflation is just worth learning Japanese to not only enjoy the lower prices but the added pleasure of reading the pieces in their native language with no chance of censorship or lost in translation.

I gave up on buying English translations a few years ago and only see them when I get online. I find that some of the scanlators have better quality translations and overall product that puts some English CO. releases to shame for even being near the same lv as a group that does it for free.

I would honestly not pay a cent if i don't like the story and art. a tokyopop/viz in my country can shoot up to 50 dollars. Imagine if i have like 5 favourite manga...the option to buy really depress me..

if its were 5 dollar per book, hell yea i will go get it >.> but 50 i would say hello online scanlations.

Therefore i appreciate alot that all those scanlators out scanning things to us for frreee XD
