500-1000, mostly on manga, not including airfare and shipping, every year for the past 10 years or so. However, amongst my friends, I spend the least. My best friend spends appx 250-300 US dollars PER WEEK on manga and comics, and don't get me started on the amount of anime and DVDs he has. I actually have to help watch stuff to make sure the discs aren't bad.

As more domestic publishers drop out, I'll be buying more overseas. Thank goodness for deductable "business trips."

Maaaaaaan, all you "none" people!! I hit the $1000+ mark easily last year (and this year is already above $500—though it remains to be seen if I will maintain the same level of spending now that roughly half the series I followed just got cut with the end of Tokyopop). I have a job, which certainly helps. And I don't read any scans, so books I buy or borrow from the library constitute the entirety of my reading. But even in college when I was reading scans frequently I still spent at least $100 yearly...

Not to brag (okay, I'm bragging a little, because I really am proud of my collection), or make people feel bad if they can't afford that kind of spending—I recognize I'm a bit over the top. But if you answered "none," I wish you might think about that and maybe find a book or two you feel is worth supporting with your hard-earned dollars this year. Start small, that's fine!

I've only been buying manga for about the past year and a half. I never buy manga new ($14 a volume dead). Instead I'll go to Book-Off, a second-hand manga store, once every few months, and buy every volume $6 and under that I don't have in the series I've decided to collect. Since my collection is young, there are a lot of gaps in it, so I can easily spend $100-$150 in one go. Just the other day I got a bunch of volumes from xxxHolic, FMA, V.B. Rose and Ouran High School Host Club for $140. Still riding that shopping high biggrin The experience of reading physical manga is far superior to online, though online makes the bulk of my reading due to availability and cost restraints, so I really do want to own my favourite series.

Well, around $100 or more, I guess, on raws and such.

Seeing the "none" take up nearly 40% is rather sickening...seriously, this isn't just mangas it's anime/manga goods and around 40% of the people aren't even willing to spend a single cent in an entire year to support the creators? I guess I should be happy that at least 60% of us are supporting the series we love, yay! eyes

It's also asking per year, not "this year", so really? That many people on MU really haven't bought a single anime/manga related item in their entire lives? Makes me just think that a good chunk of the MU community are ungrateful self-centered freeloading pirating creatures. mad

I can understand it if there was a reason like because there was nothing good worth buying in your region but at least post why you spent "none" in your entire life instead of just clicking none since you're a freeloader.

I average anywhere from 50-700 per year for the years I've been interested in the industry and it depends on availability and selection of series. Some years it's just a few books and some years it adds up with figures, games, music and others.

I got about 14 volumes of Samurai deeper Kyo, but I stopped because they started to suck. And Manga/anime isnt important enough for me to spend money on it anymore.

None. Would buy, but there's pretty much nothing anime/manga related available in my country. Plus parents wouldn't let me, and I don't really get an allowance.

Manga may not be important enough for you to spend even a cent on it (which begs the question, why even read it if it's not important?), but what about the publishers and the MANGAKA who spend their lives making manga so they can live?
