There's a bit of comedy/school life, but it gets darker as it continues?
And I completely agree with;
(I've read Dolls, and it really is seinen-ish; quite dark and has a fair bit of gore, I think it may be what you're after?)

I've tryed xxxHolic, but didn't like it that much. I guess I should read Liar Game, as a lot of people have been recommending it.
And it's not that I don't like popular mangas, It's just that I guess I've read all the popular ones, that fit my preferences ^^

Monster - Neurosurgeon saves a child who grows up to become a sociopathic serial killer. With the authorities doggedly pursuing him for a crime he didn't commit, he struggles to understand the life of this enigmatic boy. (Dark & Gory)
Heads - About a young man who receives a brain transplant and discovers that his personality has changed significantly. (Dark)
MPD Psycho - main character suffers from multiple personality disorder. He struggles to continue his work as a detective. (Dark & Gory)
Shingeki no Kyojin - Not sure where to put this. Human population has been reduced drastically by a population of disturbing/creepy giants. The remaining people must fight for their lives to ensure the survival of their race. (Dark & Gory)
Suicide Island - Suicidal people are sent to a deserted island to live out the remainder of their lives. (Dark & Gory)
Stalker - About a disfigured recluse who stalks this family, then witnesses their daughter get kidnapped. About his struggle to help the investigation without being suspected as the culprit. (Dark)
Anything by ITOU Junji . He writes horror shorts, and they usually are pretty interesting/disturbing.
Historical Manga
Sidooh - A samurai manga about two orphaned children struggling to survive in lawless Japan.
Cults, gladiator-style fighting, prostitution and human trafficking are some topics. (Dark & Gory)
Vinland Saga - Follows Thorfinn's life as he falls to a life of murder and pillaging after vowing revenge against the man who murdered his father. (Dark & Gory)
Brad Harley no Basha - Seconded. Disturbing and gory though. About girls who are promised lives of stardom as opera singers, but are used as sacrificial lambs to satisfy condemned criminals. (Dark & Gory)
Gunslinger Manga
Gangsta - Dark gunslinger manga about a male prostitute/merc for hire and his deaf partner. Has a gritty, stylized feel. (Dark & Stylized Gory)
Black Lagoon - Manga about the unsavory and immoral characters that make up a modern day pirate crew. (Dark & Stylized Gory)
Dogs Bullets & Carnage - Dystopian manga about two mercs for hire who find themselves caught in gang politics. Topics such as human experimentation, human trafficking, narcotic addiction etc are prevalent in this manga.(Dark & Stylized Gory)
Jormungand - About a child soldier who joins the crew of an arms dealer who believes in world peace. The characters are all killers.(Dark & Stylized Gory)
