I'm looking for a romance where one of the characters does something terrible to the other (intentionally or not), then is horrified at himself for it. In other words, a romance version of My God, What Have I Done?

It should be something serious, like an accidental push down stairs, rape in a drunken rage, causing a phobia, or etc. It doesn't have to be dead serious, but I'd like at least a bit of substance to it. It can even be something like stealing a first kiss, just as long as it's a serious matter to the characters, and the thief shows sincere regret.

Examples (mostly yaoi for some reason...):
Maiden Rose
Jounetsu no English Rose
A Promise of Romance (Novel)
Fruits Basket

What I DON'T want:
- The incident is minor in the overall story (like in Hot Gimmick).
- Even though the character repents, he/she continues doing terrible stuff due to "personality".
- Hentai or tragedy, but if you think they're really good, go ahead and recommend.

Flowers of Evil
It takes until the end, though. And I'm not sure it's super clear (still a good manga, though).

Rurouni Kenshin
This one, for sure. It happens twice, both times during the second arc of the manga, and the male protagonist is unable to forgive himself for his role in what happens to his loved one, the female protagonist. And it ends up playing a huge role in the plot.

Dengeki Daisy
This is one is more similar to what happens in Fruits Basket, because it has to do with the role he played in her life before he met her.

Good luck.

13's plot is entirely based on 'My God, what have I done!'. bigrazz
Evangelion dj - Re-Take-- If you're an Evangelion fan, then read this. It's the whole 'What if things could change...' from Shinji's POV. Awesome ending for the canon.
Mon Seul, the bestfriend slept with his friend's younger sister. She's still a kid.
Kimi no Sei, the guy once bullied the girl when they were kids. He still regretted it.
Hana wa Knife o Mi ni Matou
For some reason, I feel like I should include Limited lovers in this post. hmm..
Fetish..the relationship between the dad and his cloned daughter is pretty interesting..
Sono Kuchibiru ni Yoru no Tsuyu is self-explanatory..
The dramatic romance in Basara is pretty much based on this trope.

I've read Superior, and I can't remember any main instances of "What have I done?" but I do think it's good in general. I've watched Rurouni Kenshin, currently planning on reading the manga soon. ^^ Currently reading Dengeki Daisy. I've read Mon Seul and it isn't quite what I want since the girl instigated it, but it's a good manga nonetheless. Kimi no Sei technically matches, but I'm not a fan of it because the guy doesn't seem horrified at himself for his cruel treatment of the girl, pretty much saying, "Kids are always like that, but if you were affected by my bullying, then I apologize. Now forgive me and date me." I love Sono Kuchibiru ni Yoru no Tsuyu.

I'll definitely try Canon out, and I'll take a look at all the rest. Thanks!

As far as Kimi no Sei goes, read further if that bit is all the farther you've gotten. It starts to match. You even have an actual "What have I done" quote in there.

hah... I was about to recommend this.

Another that I can think of:
Hot Blooded Woman
Silver (FUJITA Kazuko) maybe. Since he's kind of shock to find the truth
Please Save My Earth he repents and becomes overly caring towards her
Show Princess but you have to wait near the end. The mistake is kind of big and major and the person finally realized it. I don't know if the ending of the manga will be the same with the Taiwanese drama but the Taiwanese drama ends with the guy repenting
Ten Yori mo Hoshi Yori mo I think he's been treating her like crap the whole time and finally realized how he actually treated her the wrong way but it's under tragedy tho

here are the ones which contain the major "what have i done" moments(eg. killing/attempting to kill someone important to love interest):

code geass-watch the anime
elfen lied
flowers of evil

others:
kare kano-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
he has angst unprotected sex with her because he wasnt in his right senses....she later gets pregnant because of this

mirai nikki-THIS HAS TO BE THE BIGGEST WHAT HAVE I DONE MOMENT
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
she didnt go on with the double suicide plan and so she becomes the next god while yuki dies, when she realises her mistake she goes to an altertenative reality to "fix" things which only makes things worse

thomas no shinzou-towards the end he stops denying that he was in love with juli(was that his name?i cant remember >.<)but its already too late since juli's dead

Good. Read Rurouni Kenshin, because what I'm talking about only happens in the manga.

You're right, Kimi no Sei does fit with the latest chapter. I hope it continues along like this~

I've read Hot Blooded Woman and wish it was a bit better, but it fits. I watched Code Geass, indeed has some good instances of it.

I'll look through the rest, thanks!
