Check out Haruki Murakami's novels, namely Kafka on the Shore, and Dance, Dance, Dance. I still have to read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles from him, but I don't have time yet because of its length (finals next week...) His descriptive novels, in my opinion, transcend beyond the normal senses (as the characters, too, question what is abstract/concrete in their world) and it is also quite ethereal. Anyway, Kafka is my favorite so far.

garth nix's books are vary good. I think the Old Kingdom books were his best so far but all his books are good.

Another book that I'm going to suggest just for fun (since I'm in love with Mr. Darcy) is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies XD I love Pride and Prejudice, so I couldn't help but buy this book... supposedly there's an "ultra violent zombie mayhem" addition... but I read the "original publication"... totally tongue-in-cheek...

Recently, I've been reading chick-lit... so I don't think they'll provide much brain stimulation, but it's entertaining... you can try Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series... I'm currently reading The Undomestic Goddess... My worth just dropped in your eyes huh when I mentioned chick-lit... XD

You're like me you like classics try Emma or Pride and Prejudice by jane austen i love her . Try Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights I think their by Charlotte Bronte for mystery try Agatha Christie she is the best when it comes tn that. For a more teenish feel mystery try Virals by the creator of the Bones series and thd Agency series by Y.S. Lee. Also try J.patteson maximum ride series.I got plenty more just let me know if you want any

Alright, so after contemplating the books, movies, and manga that have stuck with me, I have found that a lot of them are slightly disturbing and or psychological/twisted and or tragic (not to the point of gore and TOTAL... ruin... just enough for some people to sit and go... huh?) Anyways this kind of made me wonder about myself, but I won't think of that just yet.

Just be warned they aren't very typical... I think that's why I liked them so much and they stuck with me, though.

books:
-My fave author, Chuck Palahniuk. ESPECIALLY FIGHT CLUB. If you have not read the book, read it! x124214 better than the movie
-Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs (Memoir)
-Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen (Another Memoir)
-OH I also like Ellen Hopkins, especially Identical... ohhhh.

movies:
-Dangerous Beauty (Okay, no thinking or mind blowing-ness really, but I LOVED it and the girl is kick-butt!
-The Life Before Her Eyes - Just watch it! Sooo good!

manga:
-Another general author (or mangaka? I guess?): One of my faves, Fujiwara Kaoru. BEAUTIFUL art, and concepts that are out of the norm and twisted and just...
-Yuki Kaori is another good author, I really liked ludwig kakumei and fairy cube.
-Our Happy Hours: just such a good story, and it had pretty art... I loved it. (A lot of her other ones were good too!)
-3 Years This left me with that wonderful, bittersweet feeling. One of those strange ones that aren't twisted or anything, it's just.... I don't know. <- Best part? Maybe.
-Arcana Soul has stuck with me for a while, and I remember liking it and the story, but I'm not quite sure why... ?

That's what I got from preliminary wracking of my brain... Sorry for my strange tastes haha!!

manga mood: unexpected
reading: deadman wonderland

Anything by Aki. All her works are original and they are very, VERY deep and philosophical. Besides Hanamatsuri I guess [it's pretty original, but not so deep]... Definitely a brain simulator. A lot of her series, especially Angel's Doubt, include evident literary devices such as in media res, foreshadowing, hamartia, dramatic irony, etc.
Not many people appreciate her works because they don't understand it It's really sad
When you start to think some archetype is present, Aki does something unexpected with it And you gotta examine all the subtle details and hints in her stories to understand it.

There's also Shoukoku no Altair. It's the most historically accurate manga I've read [helped me pass a history test with one of the top 3 highest scores in my class /shot] as well as having unique plots, settings, plot development, and character development. You can learn a lot from reading this manga.

If it's your brain that needs stimulation, try Liar Game. The male protagonist is a genius and I find it a lot of fun just wrapping my head around some of his logic in the games they have to play. So cool!

haha no way dude! In fact your worth just doubled in my eyes. I mean I say I love all these classics but a part of my bookshelf is dedicated to Meg Cabot, Sarah Dessen and other chick lit writers... I need my chick lit novels. I need my clumsy but fashionable main characters and their sexy male counterparts And yes, I was saving Honey and Clover for when I get to college which is this fall! I mean I started watching it but then I was like, it might be better if I watched this when I can actually relate lol

There's this book that I got for my Ap Lit teacher and it's called Pride and Prejudice:The Wild and Wanton Edition and basically it's the same except Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy finally do it (there's also one for Wuthering Heights)!

You like chick lit too so do I. If you haven't read it yet read Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen and another good chick lit author is Susan Colasanti. There so many good mangas i good possibly name them all but try Billion Girl and Perfect Girl Evolution. I LOVE 2 READ I'm a Bookworm.

YES!! FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS MY SEXUAL FANTASIES! Oh my goodness I am so happy right now! I've only seen the movie with Keira Knightly and that hot british guy and so far, every single member of my family has managed to fall asleep through it (to my infinite dismay) lol I've also seen both those movies and I LOVE THEM AMELIE IS LIKE MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER!!!! DDD I have a HUGE thing for french films/books and movies with quirky characters! Have you seen Paris Je T'Aime? It's really good, it's a bunch of short vignettes about, well, Paris obviously but yeah it's really good!
Have you read anything by Antione de Saint-Exupery or Chocolat by Joanne Harris?
