Up to chapter 127, and the Jurassic Park theme I have suspected for a while now seems to have been confirmed... though I think it would have been more interesting with actual Dinosaurs at this point... but I'm biased... reptiles are just cooler.

What I've been guessing at for a while, especially since the 'Miina plate' is "Thrown into the future, Jurassic Park for some reason."

Every time they got deeper into the building, I just kept thinking to myself, "How the hell are you going to get out?"

Looking forward to more, still interesting as hell. Kinda want some romantic progress to be made though. Someone needs to get laid.

Ok, this is an idea my friend had about the story.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The structure in the middle of an island, is actually a gravestone. The text , I believe says "Miina Isurugi, requiescat in pace." which basically means rest in peace. I'm not 100% sure about the last part since it hasn't been confirmed, but it's very similar. Now that we uncovered DNA labs and etc, my friend thinks that Miina Isurugi died already and this Miina we have is a clone created with DNA.

I think it's clear from the start that the island is a research site to artificially creating those extinct animals

how else is it possible those animals from different time period exist together

and they are actually stranded IN THE FUTURE

now everything is clear .... Not!
well the mammal genus DNA database is one hint
but they hadn't explained how they did restore these extinct animals
well the Mammoth-elephant cloning wouldn't work with non frozen animals
they started explaining with rebuilding animal DNA using they characteristics
remember the small scaled mammal skull with huge teeth ?
it's maybe the John R. Horner planed "Chickenosaur"
it's about reverting evolution on DNA to activate dormant characteristics that disappeared in ancestors
there was even and experiment where the Chicken was born with teeth
and then how to explain the decay of "lighthouse" and the pyramid interior and turbines ?
if they are not decades or centuries old?
finally that strange tree maybe it's a fungus organism it parasite surface trees roots and had grown all under the island or maybe it's a DNA computer (a self replicating DNA based organic computer eek )

If you've seen Jurassic Park then you should have seen this coming lol... apparently genetic engineering doesn't exist in the part of Japan they came from seeing as they were all so surprised >>

they have the right to be surprised because they are realists
after all apart from the hype of Gen-Eng what did it achieve ? did it create new species ?
OGM plants aren't new species and are not animal ...
and Jurassic park is pure fiction and maybe impossible

read up to chapter 132. spoilers from here on out.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
from what i can tell, it was most likely time travel to the future as hinted from the first chapter when the plane went into darkness for a brief moment. how far into the future? don't know but far enough to cause an abandoned research island to erode away significantly. also the mention of miina's death at the center structure shows that the island development must of been when miina's grandfather was still alive so it shouldn't be too far into the future. was the time travel accidental? possibly but there is some hints that it wasn't from the very safe emergency landing to the pilot acting suspicious.

the research island itself is determined to be completely man-made where it is mentioned that the ground is from synthetic material. the environment with all its plants and animals are man-made as well. the reason it is abandoned could be of several reasons. the most obvious one is that it could of been a Jurassic Park scenario but with the event happening years before they arrived on the island. the event could of been different and be more on a global or extreme level since the human corpses found were in precarious spots (scientist found dead in there chair in full lab wardrobe for example).

im surprised they don't spend time making a decent boat and cruise back to japan or wherever since they have the time and resources and know when and where they crash landed approximately with all that solar panel technology they have. whatever happens though, is that they'll find out about the outside world eventually be it apocalyptic world or happy ending. but im guessing the story will be focusing on the diplomacy drama for quite some time for now.

are you serious?
crossing the pacific is no small business
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polynesian_navigation
it will take them months or maybe a year if they are hyper-lucky or they wouldn't see the day
especially since sea-faring is a way of life and is hard to learn
but I must agree with you on the time-travel aspect the facilities and the state of the corpse
indicate that decades or a century passed
but be cautious we arrived at a similar conclusion with King of thorns but like the end showed we were dead wrong ...

something similar

though nothing so it's most likely a hoax

ah *sigh* i lost to you indolent
like the chap that revealed that the island is not too far from Okinawa (1000km is still a big distance)
but with the ocean current they can manage to reach Okinawa

actually wasn't anyone surprised by the popularity poll ?
yes i understand sengoku group to be featured but how the hell did Kirno Momoka (the singing girl) and Asuka takahashi(the torn clothed girl) get more votes than Segawa Saki(yarai onesided love interest and school idol)
and what pissed me off is that there is no mention of my favorite Hatsuse Shizuka (the string-pant vice-president) who shined during the pyramid arc mad

Just read Chapter 100:

The inscription looks like, maybe

Miina Isurugi

Rest <something> in Peace

Requiescat in pace, Rest in peace in latin, that's where R.I.P. comes from.

Its so strange?
RIP Mina + Rundown pyramid underground + Mommified corpses --> the plane traveleted to the future --> Time machine ?
why build a time machine in an island that have Genetic Eng ?
you either build a time machine to recover lost animals or build a GenEng facility
Is it an intended mystery or a slopy script?
maybe because of todays quantium physics that say that you can't travel to the past before the creation of the time machine (worm-hole time-machine)
its more likely because the authors seems to stay withing speculative science and don't want to add mysterical stuffs in the story .... confused

I think the plane traveled to the future because of natural phenomenon, just like that manga Let's Lagoon and you can relate it with mysterious disappearances of people and vehicles all over the world, like in bermuda triangle

moreover, in the early part of the manga, just short after the crash, when they consulted with the pilot, the pilot said "it might've been too late for us to escape". Was that simply because they accessed restricted area? no, and I doubt normal civilian pilot would know about that. I think the pilot knew through rumor or stories about a cloud or phenomenon that makes things disappear

also, isn't it weird, an island with successful genetic manipulation, extinct animal resurrection, and a freaking chimera would be left alone just like that? and that state of the art facilities, it is a gigaproject that requires cooperation of the entire world, and a psychic

what happened was most likely...

in the near future, the world suffered from world altering phenomenon, whether it's natural or man-made. Causing the extinction of many species, maybe including part of human race. The world then pooled resources to recreate those extinct species, which is in that island. Nobody's coming to the island maybe because human race had extinct or maybe simple the big wigs have kicked the bucket so no one bothers with a research facility in some island.
