Ohmygosh I just wasted 6hrs of my life watching Escaflowne, which I thought supposedly have a strong female lead. Then after reading ep 20+ spoilers in the end the girl got send back?!?!??!?! WHAT THE HECK!?!??!?!? So glad I didn't finish it >.>''

So yeah like the topic says I'm looking for ANYTHING with strong/smart female lead (I know I ask for that a lot in mangas, but still ~)
This can be Movies, adult romance books, ANIME (preferably biggrin), TV shows, dramas, etc
And unlike Escaflowne, THE STORY HAS TO BE FOCUSED ON HER!!

Strong female doesn't have to be physical, but emotionally or mentally as well. What I would like to see is when she is placed in a difficult spot I want her to be able to analyze the situation well and play her cards accordingly, like when to be a vicious little monster and when to act the damsel in distress smile

Oh and did I mention there MUST, MUST, be romance with a good endingconfused

Thanks in advance ~

Skip Beat

Ageha wo Ou Monotachi

Pika Ichi

No Side

Beast Master

Warau Kanoko-sama

Yoo Ah Dok-Jon

Spice and Wolf

And this is a bit random, but I figured you might like this scene (warning, Kuroshitsuji chapter 57 spoilers) from that page to the end of the chapter.

Let Me In (good film about a young girl vampire... way better than the Swedish film it's based on)
The Twelve Kingdoms (no romance, but great weak-to-strong character development... in the protagonist and two or three other girls)
Coffee Prince (best drama in existence)

Kimi wa Pet in manga or drama form is worth looking into. She's not the strongest female lead out there, but she stays fairly consistent and the lead.

Anime?
Rose of Versailles, a classic feauturing one, if not the strongest female lead ever biggrin Oscar kicks ass both literally and figuratively on so many levels. Old school animation, but the chara design itself had stood the test of time pretty well all things considered.
( Revolutionary Girl Utena is in many aspects a grandchild of Rose of Versailles, but definitely more trippy and more shoujo-ai-esque rather than historical drama&mostly het romance. Lots of girl power either way ). Don't mind the sparklies in RoV too much, in the 2nd half ofthe anime they get toned down a lot too. In terms of romance...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it's eventually requited love, but the ending is set during the French Revolution, so... eh eh, we know how tragic of a period that was ^^;; . Anyway, the love story in RoV is beautiful and worth it anyway imho.

I second The Twelve Kingdoms anime suggestion, and in terms of heroines I really enjoyed Seirei no Moribito as well. in SnM there's some understated romance,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it gets fulfilled in a happy way in latter volumes of the novel series source. The anime covers the first volume and arc of the series. In terms of plot the anime is a complete story though ^^ , and the drawings are very good. Think Miyazaki, but 'prettied up' and with fuller bodies

---
manga: I second Basara and Miriam , I'd suggest also Kaze Hikaru, His and Her Circumstances, and basically anything by MOTOMI Kyousuke .
Kanata Kara also features a strong heroine... she's pragmatic and lost among her new surroundings at first, but she's smart and perseverant, her attitude and along-the-way developing powers make up for her petite consititution and human average strength . Also, KK features nice romance ;D .
In terms of shouo heroines I've a soft spot for Risa Koizumi in Lovely Complex and for SAKISAKA Io 's manga&characters in general... especially Blue http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=6329 and Strobe Edge (strong heroines as in: consistent with their feelings and beliefs and able not to turn petty or selfish or bitter or walking dormats even when their circumstances suck balls love-wise XD. They can cry, but they don't give up). Romance and happy ending for these: check.
A cute and funny one for me was also the Korean The Kidnapping of Minja Jo's Boyfriend
