Hi, this is my first post here! I am looking for a manga set in old Japan, something like Kenshin maybe? It can be histocial or a alternate take on history.

Hope someone can help me! ^-^

Vagabond, fictional story based on a real historical person.

Some good ones by Koike Kazuo,
Hanzou no Mon
Kozure Ookami
Kubikiri Asa

I'll second Amatsuki
Zanbara!
Hinata no Ookami

Edit: Ah, you can also look at the category list to find manga where the story occurs in the Taisho/Heian/etc. era. It's very handy.

Ooku by Fumi Yoshinaga.

Alternate old Japan, where a good portion of the men have died off due to a mysterious disease, and the women have to take their places; as fishmongers, officials, and Shogun, etc. It's won several awards and it's very good.

First volume stands pretty much on it's own, taking place decades after the plague strikes. Subsequent volumes delve deeper into the history of how things changed from a male dominated society to a female one.

Despite it's genre description as shoujo, it's more josei. Definitely not a 'girly' title despite the female hierarchy.
