The official poll is about whether you compare them or not, but if you want, you can discuss your actual conclusions here (like scanlations tend to be better/worse or something else)

Question: Do you compare scanlations to the official published releases?
Choices:
All the time, when I can! - votes: 1160 (10.2%)
Sometimes, when I feel like it - votes: 3008 (26.5%)
No, I don't care about comparing - votes: 3478 (30.6%)
No, I'd only read the chapter / volume once - votes: 634 (5.6%)
No, I don't have any official volumes to compare them to - votes: 3090 (27.2%)
There were 11370 total votes.
The poll ended: July 2nd 2011

If I wasn't so lazy or if I could afford to or if I could find official ones easily (through cheap methods) I probably would compare them.. In fact when I could I have..

But that's been.. Er.... Twice in my life thus far?

I think that technically qualifies as all of the time when I can..? >.>;; Technically. bigrazz

I think I've compared once or twice, usually when it comes to the names. I hate it when the 'official' version changes the names, but otherwise I don't really bother.
It's troublesome to compare them. I'm a lazy sod.

I did a couple times just because I could. From the ones I compared, there wasn't too much of a difference, though some of the wording and such in the official published releases were better.

I don't go out of my way to compare, but sometimes the official translation uses really crappy phrases, Like "Turn into a freak" vs "Turn into a monster"

It all depends on the scanlation group and the publisher that are working on a series. Some people are just better at translating, cleaning, and typesetting than others... regardless of the legality and "professionalism" of the workmanship.

Sometimes.
But that's not my first intention.. it's just the dialogues are different, and i can't help myself to compare the scanlations with the official releases. Both of them do translate manga from its original language. Scanlations translate manga from J,K,C to English. Official Publishers translate it from J,K,C to my original language.
But I enjoy reading the scanlations more..

Poll needs a "No, I don't read scanlations" option.

Most of the time, when I buy manga volumes, it is because I am in love with the series. Most of the time I read the scanlations on line, so after reading it X times online just can't help but notice when I'm reading the physical volume for the first time. I just notice the dialogues are different.
I do have to say: The scanlation groups I read manga from, which I'll later on buy, do a terrific job.

I sometimes end up comparing them but realize they are too different from each other O.O

Sometimes.
When I love a manga, I read the scanlations a lot.
And when I love it so much, I buy the "official" volumes.
And because I've read the scanlations so much, I notice how different the "official" release translates it.
So I compare them.
And I end up being disappointed because the scanlations are much better.
The "official" is usually Americanized and not held true to the Japanese culture and explained.
