I fall asleep every time I lay on my bed (or any other for that matter) for more than 5 minutes. The trick lies in making yourself as comfortable as possible.

I do not sleep, I hibernate. I seriously sleep whenever I want, for as long as my body requires. I have slept over 24 hours straight after a really tiresome trip which involved sleep deprivation and an unusual amount of exercise. I can sleep every day of the week over 12 hours, if I have college or some other thing I can get up without being tired at all with 8 hours of sleep or less. Never had issues with sleep while being healthy.
However if I'm running a fever, sick with flu or some other annoying stuff, my medicine is a long play list of songs that relax the crap out of me. So here is my recipe:
1) Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven, All My Love, No Quarter, Kashmir.
2) Guns N' Roses - November Rain, Don't Cry, Patience.
3) Gary Moore - Parisienne Walkways, Midnight Blues, Still Got The Blues.
4) Rainbow - Catch The Rainbow, Temple Of The King.
5) Scorpions - Send Me An Angel, Still Loving You.
6) Metallica - The Unforgiven II, Nothing Else Matters.
7) Judas Priest - Angel.
8) Ozzy Osbourne - Mama I'm Coming Home, Dreamer.
9) White Snake - Is This Love.
10) Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got ('Till It's Gone), Heartbreak Station.
11) Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes.
12) Saigon Kick - Love Is On The Way.
13) Great White - Save Your Love.
So there it is, there is no specific order, just hit the random button and start. Enjoy and hope it helps.
On the other hand, if you wanna focus into something deep in the night and you know that you have to stay awake, like a test or exam or the most important thing ever, listen to MAXIMUM volume: Mudvayne - Determined, over and over again, you will feel it.

P.S: Sleeping is the thing I enjoy the most biggrin

I too have insomnia, I think the only solution is to either take sleeping pills or stay up 24+ hours in a row. Such is life.

Stress tends to keep me awake, so not having anything to stress about makes sleeping easier for me.

It's easier to fall asleep when you have sth that gonna due soon and you just think "Fuck it, it's impossible to do anything good at 2 a.m anyway so let's go to sleep." And then you gonna sleep like a log.

I'm actually a very quick sleeper! I can put my head on the pillow and count to ten and be out like a light! I am not the same way with naps though. They take a little longer!

So I'm sorry! I don't have any tips.

I used to fall asleep rather quickly (within an hour or so) and then sleep somewhere between 10~12ish hours.
However, two years ago, I unfortunately caught insomnia (most likely due to stress, and I'm still a bit stressed). It was REAL bad when I first got it, I was moving like a zombie. It was hell, and it happened right before Christmas, too >.>.../not that I even like Christmas, but anyway:

It's gotten a little better (so I might sleep 3~4 hours if I'm lucky, and if nothing wakes me up /is a light sleeper now), I sleep better though if I really tire myself out.

Hopefully I'll be cured of this eventually /doesn't use medicine.

So my only tips would be
1) Tire yourself out.
2) And if your stressed, try to relax.

Also, I've found that sometimes, taking a shower before going to bed helps me get sleepier (it's only sometimes though.)

There are day when my head hits the pillow and I am out! But thats usually after a tiring day. I have sleigh insomnia (not nearly as bad as some) and my doc says that eating a healthier diet and exercising regularly helps (though idk anymore about the "eating healthier"... that seems to be their go-to phrase now-a-days roll eyes but I'm sure it would help). She also said that getting up and going to bed (even if you don't go to sleep... as long as you don't have and stimulus and are relaxing) at the same time everyday helps tremendously.

According to the experiments I've done personally, exercising and a set wake up & bed time are the most beneficial. Now, mind you I have not kept to them very well, but they had the most results. eyes

i don't know... I don't have a clock in my room.
If I count I'll become more aware, if i become more aware then I can't fall asleep since i'll be stressing about how many hour/s I have left of sleep.

It's best to just tire yourself out. Like, go through the whole day without laying down even once, and tucker yourself out towards bedtime. Only go to bed when you're absolutely sure you'll be able to fall asleep.

I used to have allot of problems sleeping because I am such a night owl. But now that I have a full time job that I have to wake up for, I don't have too many problems with waking up. I tried a heap of things to get to sleep, some work, some don't, but if you have something to wake up for, then you will be able to keep a more rigid schedule which helps allot. What also helps me, though not without the job to keep me on a rigid cycle, is medication. The medication that helps me sleep is treating another condition that causes my sleep disruption. Have a talk to your doctor about your sleep, he/she may be able to help. Other than that;

Computer screens, phone screen and TV screens all emit a light that your brain mistakes for daylight, which can mess with your body's time perception. Try to avoid screen time an hour before sleep.

A hot bath or shower will relax your muscles, and your mind, and if you make a hot bath or shower a part of your regular routine your body will also learn, that after a hot bath or shower, you go to sleep.

Along the same note of the last message, keeping a routine before bed, and reserving your bed for sleeping only helps allot. If you are doing complicated math games in bed, (lol) then your brain will think that bed is the place to do complicated sums and it will be difficult to sleep there because your brain will go nuts.

Don't do rigorous exercise two hours before bed, eat two hours before bed, caffeine after five in the evening. Instead do a calming activity like reading, sewing, or looking at pictures of fluffy animals.

Lastly, there are a number of things that help you relax, lavender oil is relaxing, you can sprinkle it on your pillow or put it on your temples, the scent is what will relax you. What also helps is the sound of the ocean, or rain noises, which can all be found on youtube.

Best of luck.
