Okay. Who (or what) the hell is he? I'm about 100% sure he's not a shinigami, because that would be so obvious (from the anime) and Yana doesn't do obvious. So what then?

And I just love that his character is finally being explored more. Like most people, I think, he's been a character of interest for quite some time, but he's just sort been hanging out in the back of my mind since when he's being serious he only gets really cryptic lines that obviously would have meaning if you knew who he was, but are much more forgettable since you don't.

Also, I think the fact that both he and Lizzy had their little "surprise, I'm actually more than you thought I was moments" means that Yana is preparing to start dealing with the more central story at hand. Up until this point, we've sort of been getting side stories with mysteries and hints of whats to come every now and again. But since some of those mysteries are starting to get answered, maybe it means that the long regime of side stories is over . . . ?

I'm also interested into seeing who Undertaker truly is and what're his intentions? Chapter 59 was amazing, showing more of Undertaker and that he's going against Grell.

However, about the whole question of what he is: "Death god or not?", it's very possible he is/was a Death God - Towards the end of the Noah's Ark Circus arc, when the Baron's house was set on fire, Undertaker was not only looking at the fire, but also at the Cinematic Records of the victims.

If he's not a Death God, it'll be even more interesting in my opinion. smile

Also, you have great point about how the manga is now. It could either be that the plot is thickening (instead of just small arcs), it's character developments...or even both! OVERALL: it's getting so much more better. thank god, it's better than how the anime went. bigrazz

The cliffhangers are KILLING me though. D:

And here was thinking he was just another wierdo. That his job turned him crazy. But, he could really be an interesting character!
That aside; who else wanted the viscount to at least be beaten up, if not maimed or killed?

The Undertaker always interested me however (obviously) we only really saw him once or twice and never really learned anything about him in both appearances. So he just became kind of a mystery in the back of my mind

So I'm excited to learn (possibly) more about him the next chapter laugh

(and no, I never watched the anime, so I have no idea what he was supposed to be in that context)

I could see him being a retired (probably high level) shinigami or something, but I would perhaps prefer to see him as something less....obvious? If that is the right word.

i just want to say
THAT POSE ON THE LAST PAGE ! OMG! LOL

ok fangirl moment *over* XD

he always knew a bit "too much" or at least it seemed that way.... but i didnt see that coming, i thought sebastian or the guy with glasses would appear and stop him but Not undertaker..
it really is nice... theres no point on watching the anime if you think its better, cz it isnt,
i just hope the end or w/e comes next wont suck.

Yeah, i was excited to finally see his face (a good one at that bigrazz) and to see him in action! haha he appears in the manga way more than twice, mostly comedy relief though. But at times he would know more than a normal 'undertaker' should, so you would get the idea there's definitely more to him.

I hope it turns out different than the anime. Him being an ex-shinigami would be kinda disappointing this time around. His comments after Lady Red's funeral earlier in the manga gives me the impression he may not even be human (or at least not a normal one...) Possibly a demon? My bet is on something else, I just don't know what yet.

PS Random, but when he first spreads his cloak out and shows all those sticks things with the writing on them I thought that kinda looked like Thanatos for P3 lol. Well, just a little...

Just gonna say that the fact that he beat a powerful shinigami with one blow kinda makes it obvious that he's not human.

In case anyone's wondering, those sticks are grave markers with Buddhist prayers inscribed on them (or so I've been told). Definitely not Western, though, which brings up another curious point about who he is.

undertaker is the mad scientist of the manga? hell yes!
i waited for this to come since the first time i saw him. they made his true identity a little boring in the anime.
maybe he is another frankenstein?
but, god, druitt going "all hail viscount druitt" and making everyone so pissed that they want to kill him while i am laughing my ass off... and than the reveal that this was created by undertaker to make himself laugh.... i love this arc

I feel like no matter what the Undertaker is/was always related to death and hell in some way. I hope his true identity will be revealed soon.
