Have anyone read or heard about the "Hunger Games" trilogy? It's a book by Suzanne Collins. I haven't read the trilogy, but based on the summary, it sounds a lot like Battle Royale. I'm not saying that it's a copycat. But I get tired of hearing friends when they see an anime, they'd be like "That looks like something from this and that movie" when it's the other way around.

For example, during the opening movie in FFXI, a friend told me that they'd copied from Star Wars. I admit, it does look like it but I think the style is more from the FF series than from SW and that SW is just influenced by FF.

I love those books! Ive never seen battle royal but its a good trilogy. The first two chapters in the first book are a bit dry but you have to get past them until she gets in the game then it gets exciting. I strongly suggest reading them they are amazing!

the first book is good...i haven't read the other two so i can't speak for them...i was pleasantly surprised to see that a hyped up "young adult" book didn't make my eyes bleed

I admit, I'm looking forward to see the movie and see how much it'll differ from each other. Now, I am curious and wanting to read it since AliceinAmestris & Skinny Kazoo, and others say that it's interesting. But I think I'll wait for the movie first before reading. =)

I've just been to IMDB and it seems that it's being compared to Twilight. How are they similar and how do they differ?

Twilight is all about the romance. I do find it to be a good book but they really arent similar at all. Hunger Games is more about the games and civilization. Alot more character growth happens in Huger Games as well.

Worst "love" story I've ever read.
About Hunger Games, I've bought the first and second books yesterday. Hope they're good...

The only reason I bought the first book was because Stephen King gave it a positive review (I refused to read it before because I thought it was simply another hyped up Twilight-esque series)...

...if Mr. King thinks its worth my time, then I will give it my time

Mhmmm....the Hunger Games were pretty good.
The first book hooked me, and I loved how the author transitioned each event, and how she made the survival game "realistic" in a way.
The second book wasn't too bad, and I liked the arena of the second book.
The third was one was OK...it could have been better. no

I read the first book. The plot is pretty original to me. The concept may be the same as The Lord of the Flies or Battle Royale, but it's still unique and highly enjoyable.

I don't understand why people dwell on similarities. Who cares if something looks/sounds/whatever like something else. As long as people like it, then there's no need to compare.

Also.

You only read the summary. You can't really tell what a book is like until you actually read it.

Gah, this comparison stuff really annoys me.

I have the trilogy signed by the author ;D It's very similar to Battle Royale and the author has once said that she was inspired by the series... In my opinion, I only read it for the romance and the suspense of knowing that some of my favorite characters may be killed off very soon.

For example, during the opening movie in FFXI, a friend told me that they'd copied from Star Wars. I admit, it does look like it but I think the style is more from the FF series than from SW and that SW is just influenced by FF.

Off topic, but how the hell could Star Wars be influenced by Final Fantasy? Star Wars is a 34 year old series, FFXI came out in '02.

I meant the designs of the spacecrafts and such. They're similar in SW 1-3 ( which came out after FF) but with the older ones that came out first (4-6), they're a little bit different. Or if could just be my imagination shy bigrazz

Oh right right, that makes sense. Carry on.

Haven't read the books, but they seem to be a sort of Battle Royale lite. Though I am somewhat interested considering the amount of acclaim they've been getting (never been much for teen fiction though). Now I also want to see the movie, Jennifer Lawrence being one of my favorite new actors and director Gary Ross having made the excellent "Pleasantville".
