How many projects should a scanlation group have? And under what conditions?

Question: Scanlation groups and their projects / series...
Choices:
Having lots of projects brings more variety to all - votes: 487 (4.2%)
A group should have 1-2 projects and finish them before getting new ones - votes: 1816 (15.6%)
As long as the group isn't too overwhelmed, why not multitask? - votes: 6850 (58.9%)
As long as it doesn't slow down the only project I care about - votes: 2477 (21.3%)
There were 11630 total votes.
The poll ended: September 17th 2011

i didnt vote because i didnt know what to choose
i guess it depends on the number of staff ,their availability(leisure time) and the effort put into it

Option no.3
As long as they can keep up, i don't think it's a problem smile

As many as they feel they can handle.

It's nice to have different projects going on at the same time anyway. It gets boring working on the same manga all the time. You need to change it up sometimes.

As long as the amount of projects is not overwhelming for the staff it doesn't matter.

3-4 maybe unleast the project is weekly, monthly etc

If the manga is complete in japan and they already have 3-4 project i think they should complete one before starting a new one.
I hate it sometime when some groups have to many project and some project take 6months on more before we see a new chapters i saw some group taking over 1 years before a new release.
but in the end they do that for free so they can do whatever they want.

I didn't vote because what really matters to me is that the group sets up a schedule of releases that they are able to stick to. Like, if they can set up a pattern of releasing a new chapter once a month or once every other month for each manga they are working on, I don't care how many projects they take on. Its just frustrating when you don't know when a new chapter is going to be released. Like what darkraiders said, I have seen manga that weren't updated for several months or even a couple years. I don't know if it was a problem of taking on too many projects, or if they lost their translator or something. But if the cause was they were taking on too many projects, I don't think that's acceptable

I voted "1-2 projects". But actually, make that about 5 projects. The problem is, an average scanlation group has 20 projects, and translators with a real life. Meaning: the one series you care about has one or two releases per year.

1-2 hate when there is a manga I like but it got releasers like every 1-2 months because they translate 10+ different mangas, and I only care about 1 or 2 of them. )=

Well, it's up to them. There is always some other stuff around for me to read, so I don't care that much laugh

They can have as many as they want to have, but the amount should not force them to drop any projects (especially the ones I like).

I voted for the last option, since it's rare that I'll find a group that I like every one of their projects.

I absolutely hate it when the group is sitting on raws of one series, slowly churning out releases of other projects and then get all angry when another group starts working on the first series. When your releases are being hindered by your massive amount of works, please don't act like you own all of them like tokyopop. Focus on less to bring up the quality and speed. Only when you have spare time in between your up to date projects should you really get new series to work on.

As long as they can handle the work load, and I still get the series I like at a reasonable rate I'm happy...

I feel that a group should be able to realize its own capacities and not get too carried away with the number of projects. I see a lot of groups these days with 30+ ongoing projects and they don't have the staff to be able to regularly release all of them. :/ The projects get a release once every 3 months.

;_; The number of staff in my group is decreasing though, it's depressing. It's only been almost a year and a half and we've already dropped 3 projects because of lack of interest/staff (mostly because the translators disappeared and also, lol, we didn't like them anymore). Right now we have 8 projects, which is probably the maximum number of projects I ever want to have at once, thank goodness two of them are about to be finished though.

I took the As long as the group isn't too overwhelmed, why not multitask? answer. In my opinion you should be able to do a chapter a month per series, I don't think that's asking too much.

However many they want to do.

It's their group, their free time, their decisions, whatever they want to work on.

I don't like any of the poll options, so I didn't vote.
