Before I start going on about the type of manga I'm looking for, please note that I don't mind fan service. But I do hate fan service that slows the plot down, for example there is a whole scene or multiple scenes that have nothing to do with the plot filled with fan service. But, I don't mind pantie-shots etc if it doesn't effect the progress of the story and character development.Like in triage X it's really not bad, it sometime actually add an edge to it.

Any way I'm looking for quality mangas like Highschool of the Dead, Triage X, Veritas, The Breaker, Gantz, Arachnid, Eden no Ori, Noblesse, Otomegatari, Shingeki no Kyojin, Zippy Ziggy, Aphorism, The God of High School, and Tokyo Girls Destruction.

Now I know that some may consider some of these mangas listed to be less quality, but I'm just giving the examples of what I've seen so far. Some of the reasons why I listed these specific mangas are because of two or more things the factors listed:

The art, I think all of the ones listed apply to this one, some far surpass the others though like [the breake] and Triage X. Good art can make or break a manga and sometimes increase it's quality level

Good plot, yeah I think that all of them have a good plot and hold my attention, nicely executed too

Likable characters: though there may be a few annoying characters. Like Rei off of highschool of the dead, I hate her guts I wish she would just get I wish she would just get the freak out of the way for saeko (who accually deserves him) . I don't know why everyone else likes her, I could go on forever let me get back on topic. So cool character that are totally bad-ass or at least boarderline, I'm looking for a character that make me get excited ever time they show up because I know that "it's about to go down"(kevin hart reference)

A refreshing something that some mangas have, that something may vary from manga to manga and may not be considered refreshing to other manga readers (based on their manga history and experiences). Yeah, just something that makes you say "ahhh... this is why I love reading manga"

An engaging effect on the reader, something that makes your emotions get involved to the point that you develop a strong opinion on every aspect of the story. A manga that makes silly puddy out of your feelings, molding them which ever way the mangaka chooses.

I'm going to stop here I think you get the gist, if I tell you all the this I like about these mangas It will be too long. It's already too long though, thank you very much for reading this I really appreciate it. If you could just tell me the mangas that come to mind that would be greatly appreciated. Sorry it really is too long. eek

Well the only thing that comes to my mind is Mirai Nikki, so far the manga that absorbed me the most... the plot is interesting, the characters are very special in their own way, and gore should be ok for you as I can see this should be fine. Art should be fine too (I don't really remember it, the plot kinda sucked me in xD).

hey what is that supposed to mean the art and action scenes are of high quality. you don't see that in every manga ya know. I know the fanservice may be a bit of putting but the story is good too. And it efficiently uses cliche characters in a new type of setting, I like that. just because it's not totally unoriginal doesn't mean it's not higher quality.

at least that's what I think you're hinting at shy, if you aren't, FML for making an idiot out of myself dead

If you're okay with manwha suggestions, Trace was very good. I spent about two days doing nothing but reading it until I was finished.

Since it seems like you read some survival type stuff, King of Thorn and Doubt (Tonogai Yoshiki) might work.

IM Dal-Young you will consider his works of higher quality I believe, when I look at the examples of higher quality work you gave us.
Also, an advanced genre search with Female Fighters, Strong Female (or Male) Lead and possibly Big Breasts as keywords may help.

I totally agree with Emperor. Most of the manga you mention is very far from being a higher quality manga.
A higher quality manga is something like Claymore, Nononono and the like.
That shounen crap you mention? Not a quality manga. Quality shounen manybe, but quality manga? Hell no.

I've always been curious as to why people don't like these types of manga. please elaborate,I feel like I'm missing something. maybe I'm just weird shy , because I enjoy all aspects of these mangas. Not just the fanservice.

Well, what can I say. Enjoy it while you still can.

The reason I personally dislike shounen is that after the 50th one they all start to get the same, repetitive and annoying. They all rely on the same formula of main hero gets almost defeated by the villain, then by some miraculous plot device he gets the power up and then finally beats the bad guy. then the stronger guy comes out and same thing happens again. Wash-rinse-repeat.

Besides the protagonist is always loud, uncool, reject, weak or dumb as a rock in the beginning of the story. And nothing beside power level usually changes throughout the story. How about growing, maturing, learning from lessons? Nope, not in shounen. Not in any realistic way anyway.

The reasons of characters, their interactions, and their actions are so unrealistic that I can't just immerse myself anymore. Like for example when a villain is doing his explanation speech everyone just listens instead of attacking. Or when some close friend gets hurt by the villain, the first thing a hero does is running up to the friend shouting his/her name repeatedly while villain again simply watches. Or always protecting his friends even if it puts him in danger. Or refusing to kill enemies. Or fatal wounds that take only few days to heal. Or no main characters ever dies. Stuff like that really annoys me after a while.
After reading quality manga, getting back into shounen is quite impossible.

Admittedly, there are some amazing shounens out there like Hunter x Hunter or Gantz, but they are so few and far in between that it is more like exception that proves the rule.

Thank you for that Astral100 I think I finally understand, I just haven't grown out of liking mangas like that just yet. And it's also up to me to find these mangas on my own since everyone else skips over them (one day I probably do the same). And now that I think about it you're right about shounen mangas, it kinda sounds like an insult to other mangas calling them quality. sorry shy

So...I stopped reading that massive OP so sorry if this isnt exactly what you want...

...Slam Dunk is one of the few shounen manga which I can honestly say is really high quality in relation to all other manga. I have yet to meet its equal.

also, Shingeki no Kyojin
