I don't remember what this manga was about but it was a romance and school life shoujo. There was a character, not the main ones, who was a girl the same age/class as the others but she was small, quiet, weak and sick. There was a chapter where the classes were competing in a race and she ran really really slow. Some people wanted to help her but one of the main characters told them that she had to do this herself, for her pride or something. She also develops a relationship with some guy after awhile because he always tries to help her but he tries to play it off like he doesnt really want to. She goes through surgery at the end or something.

Would really like it if someone could identify this side character and remember which manga it was from.

Just thought of another manga that I can't remember.

There was a scene where this girl leaves and the class or group of friends decide to make cranes for her. The guy who likes her/ she likes goes off by himself and it seems like he doesnt care. But when she is going to leave, he shows up with his own cranes.
