I guess I would keep reading scanlations. It's working great on my Kindle. And to pay for a manga in e-format... well that's like paying for a scanlation. I mean, you get the same thing.

My choice is Keep reading scanlations anyway, why bother with the E-book since it's almost nothing different?

But on more serious note... i really can't remember when was the last time i bought amanga in another than original language and e-books there are either for free on publishers home page or available through cell phones (with fee) which is something i can't do because i don't have an appropriate phone D:

I can say that I did buy a manga for my kindle from Amazon once, but I couldn't see the small print on the panels so I got a refund. I do however use Netcomics, even though the whole rental thing annoys me.

Keep reading scanlations whilst waiting for the paper version.
Nothing beats having an actual book in your hands.

If I'm gonna buy something, I'm buying a paper format, otherwise it's scanlations for me on the computer.
All the series I buy in paper format I've read before, so if I liked it enough, I would continue to read the scanlations but buy the paper format as well. But only if I really liked the series and wouldn't mind reading again.

Same as the others. There's no point in buying an ebook version when there are scanlations available. What I want is the hard copy and I'm not spending money on anything but that.

While my opinion follows that of the people here I also have a policy that if I really like an artist, I'd support them as best as I can. If we assume I want to legally read it, for me, it's because I really, really like the series. Example: Sasameki Koto. I have the all the translated scans saved on my PC, and I would certainly love for ALL the chapters to be translated and published in a book. But if they licensed it as an e-book I'd buy it. Why? Because I really love Sasameki Koto. It is my favorite, or at the very least one of my favorite mangas to date. I want to give Ikeda Takashi my money for writing that.

But in the same way as books, CDs, and vinyls work for some people, owning a hard copy of Sasameki koto would be icing on the cake.

I already have an e-reader (original nook), but I prefer to read on my computer with scanlations. The screen is bigger and easier for me to read. e-reader is wonderful but I prefer to only read a wall of text on it. Perhaps if I had something like the iPad with a bigger screen, it would be more worth it. However, touching a physical copy is best.

i would choose scanlations

Oh come on, you can think that way but don't bring others down for wanting to have their manga in their hands, and the reassurance that their favorite mangaka is being financially supported in the back of their minds.

I would definitely buy the manga (doesn't matter that we're in the 21st century), but I would rather wait for the paper version and read scanlations until then. I only ever seriously think about ebooks if the series isn't scanlated, though.

Unlike so many people, I really like ebooks because it means that I won't have to give up my books when it comes time to move( I move a lot), and I'm still legally supporting the authors. The only things I don't like about ebooks is geo restrictions and the price; I want to buy any ebook I want anywhere in the world and ebooks should not be the same price of physical books.

I do buy manga in its online format, and I'll probably continue to do so, because I want to support the industry in NA and the mangaka. I just wish they were freaking less expensive(WTH $9 for an emanga you can't even resell!!??). But if there are scanlations of a series I want to read, I'll read those instead andmaybe buy the localized version when I have extra money and I can't come up with anything to buy.

Publishers should stick with localizing manga in ebook format that has not been scanlated.
