just last night I was reading some news on the net and stumbled upon the discovery of a planet which may be able to support life. I don't know if everyone has read this but if anyone wants to read about it, here's a link:
http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2011/1206/New-planet-disco vered-to-be-first-in-habitable-zone

Anyway, i know it seems a bit too childish or whatever but just thinking of the possibilities make me excited. I checked on the terraforming of Mars and Europa after that and seeing those visual concepts though I know they are just THAT, still I can't help imagining.

LET"S GET TO MY POINT.
Are there any stories out there (i'm mostly looking for manga & anime but novel, game even film are welcome. just throw me a ball here) concerning terraforming? I know Aria and its prequel Aqua are somewhat like that. I really like the concept of that manga and watching the anime was also fun. Are there any more out there which has the same kind of premise? Just please nothing that has same-gender romantic relationships.

*if there is anyone out there who doesn't know what Terraforming is, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraforming

The novels in the Mars trilogy (Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars) by Kim Stanley Robinson.

Browse the anime/manga section here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Terraform

But honestly, some of those entries aren't about terraforming (especially in the manga/anime section) but about a story where a terraforming is already happened. I can only add that I vaguely remember (but I could be wrong) that in an episode of Martian Successor Nadesico anime they showed how they terraformed Mars. But I watched it more than 10 years ago, so I'm not really sure.
And if you want to play a game about it, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is the classic choice.

I can only think of Vampire Juuji Kai

The problem is that terraforming is only brought into the story near the end. It isn't really that important to the plot. Sorry if I was no help. none

I'd second this recommendation of the Mars trilogy. I can't think of any mangas or animes that focus on terraforming, but it is a background issue in quite a few, such as Trigun.

Edit: And I don't think it's at all childish to be excited about the these discoveries. In fact, you'd have to be pretty unimaginative not to thrilled by the possibilities! smile

In the anime (based on the manga) Blue Submarine No.6, the Earth was terraformed... although that's kind of different, geoengineering.
