Okay, finished it two times now... Conclusion: Meh, another ±70 hours wasted... Should have just picked up a book.

The ending(s) sucked. No matter what you do or what you choose, there is no "good" ending. In my opinion they are all "bad" endings, or at best "almost normal" endings. It feels forced and not at all what I expected and hoped for.
The game doesn't leave a "job well done" feeling, even when playing hardcore paladin(sorry paragon) with ±10000 effective military strength (which should be more than enough).
I already knew beforehand the game was going to be about Earth and such, but would have liked it if they focussed a little bit less on "humanity".

The endgame (the bit before the "ending"):
Again, feels forced and pointless. Could have been handled much better, even integrating the party members better into a coherent story would have improved things by a lot. Simply walking up to them and spouting some standard lines just doesn't cut it.

The game itself:
Things are rushed, the game has very few actual missions which leads to large jumps in the story itself. Between missions you're only scanning star systems and checking if you've talked to every available character (which amounts up to over half the game time).

The dreamscene - the first time I encountered it, it felt out of place... after that it just became annoying. Not having been able to find movement speed in coalesced.bin didn't help sad... Also, what the heck are they trying to force-feed here? So a boy dies before his/her eyes... He/she has been killing both humans and aliens mercilessly for the past (3?) years, and optionally was the sole survivor of some battle (one of the character creation options).

As with the previous ME games, this one also has a long-winded unskippable intro tutorial combination... Which is fine the first time, but is a mayor turnoff when considering a replay.
You do get to see the face of Tali, sort of, but only when you play a male Sheppard and have romanced her in 2... Nothing to write home about though, would have been better to not show her face, that way the "magic" would still be there.

After about an hour of gameplay I started getting annoyed with their overuse of stereotypes. There is nothing wrong with using stereotypes in general, it's very hard to avoid. But please, a little bit more originality would have been very welcome. Maybe I'm placing the bar a bit high here, but please this is the conclusion of a game series made by a company with a big budget and many fans... good writing should not be a luxury here.

Not even going to rant over the DLC/Multiplayer issues, other than: Do NOT want do NOT care.

Not importing a ME2 save-games places you at a MASSIVE disadvantage and will have you miss much content. I liked it better the way it was handled in KotOR 2, there they determined choices made in the previous game by dialogue (i.e. storyteller:And Revan defeated the Jedi are he later disappeared... You: Are you daft, Revan was a woman and she betrayed the Sith by assisting the Jedi!).

And lastly, a very big issue which to my surprise Bioware had not addressed in ME3 was the dialogue skip action. WHY oh WHY does "skip line" have the same key bound as "choose answer"?... And to make matters worse, why do they overwrite the savegame from before an (important) dialogue immediately after, had to replay chunks of the game because I skipped by too fast and accidentally choose the wrong answer.

Sigh, ah well. The book is closed and now have another game I'll probably never touch again.

Well, the endings were all sad, but hey! not all games have happy endings, so Shepard contributed to a noble cause. I think it's fine and people should stop complaining :/

It's not that the endings weren't happy, I can live with that.
It's that the endings make everything you did, all the choices you made, utterly pointless and irrelevant. There is no closure whatsoever, not even a decent epilogue, the only impact any of the choices have is what colour explosion you get.
The way I see it, the ME games were about Shepard saving the galaxy, fighting for life's right to exist.
But then, no matter what you do, the reapers win. Galactic civilization is destroyed whatever choice you make.
It would have been better if you had been given a choice between sacrificing yourself, and saving everyone and stopping the reapers. Or something darker, sacrificing something else, to keep your own life and save the galaxy, or dominate it, or something.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Plus, the whole reason for the Reaper's existence makes no sense. To restore order or some crap? Because organics will always create synthetic life, which will rebel. Synthetics and organics can never live in peace according to The Catalyst. Well, didn't I just disprove that by creating peace between the Geth and Quarians? And, if the Citadel houses the one controlling the Reapers, what was the point of sovereign? Or the conduit, or the Collectors? None of it makes sense.

I'm gonna wait for the price to drop before I get this one but one of the biggest mistakes for me was taking out planet exploration in Mass Effect 2. They had boundless opportunities to make interesting planets to explore yet they scaled it all down.

A lot of people didn't like the planet bits for one reason or another but how can you have a game with that much space exploration and not have a ton of planets to explore.

Indeed, it's a science fiction game. I can understand things being different from how we know them (the main reason I play/read/watch science fiction), but I simply can't stand things that don't make sense. (read: inconsistent or impossible, need not understand it but should at least "sound" logical/possible).

I could understand it if the story followed for example the Prothean civilisation, whilst being different and unfamiliar it also makes sense and follows a logic that could actually work.
But when the story starts to contradict itself or forces you down a path with non-sensible plotdevices and annoying choices...

In the end, we are still left in the dark as to what the reapers are, what they want, and why they act like they do.
I mean, they destroy, sorry "harvest"?, advanced organic civilisations because they will inevitably create synthetic life which will rise against their creators... so what? Not only has just such an event arisen and solved peacefully, aren't the reapers also synthetic?
There are other and much better ways to do this, heck it was already insinuated that organic life was being guided by the reapers to follow certain paths (citadel and such).
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
But come on, the only way to end the reaper threat is by a) becoming one yourself, b) destroying all synthetic life, or c) combining organics and synthetics.
All three are non-options and result in the total destruction of the current galactic civilisation anyway.
They spend three games making Shepard seem as some sort of charismatic conflict solver with ingenuity and strength to back things up... Yet when offered 3 choices by some odd entity with differing values and opinions he/she doesn't even try to convince it, or even try to find out WHY... Shepard is not a shepherd, but a sheep.

Also, what was the point of the humanoid reaper from ME2?

I simply can't accept their apparent message of "coexistence is impossible", coalescence is the only way forward...

From my point of view, the storyline is kind of like Starcraft- Reapers-Xel Naga.

But the ending choices would either bring peace by control or temporary peace or the end to the reaper cycle.

Civilization will start anew and differently depending on the choice you make in the final moment.

I don't know, but the ending was befitting. All the choices you made lead up to your demise for the good or the worse.

roll eyes

It seems the real problem is the fact that theres no post-ending aftermath summary similar to Dragon Age Origin (which everyone complained about as well...)

That said, any amateur writer would laugh in your face if they told them to write a conclusion that including ALL the depth the Mass Effect series had been building up to. (Theres literally HUNDREDS of possible dialogue option combinations if you combine all 3 games, and thats JUST for plot-required missions. Of course they weren't going to deviate too far from a generic "and this is how it all ends" conclusion.)

IMO the problem with the ending is how it is so jarringly different from the rest of the series; even the rest of the game (ME3) itself. I can only hope that they were going for a... Shamalan-esque "twist" at the end instead of just poor writing. But throwing in, for all effective purposes, god, at the end and blowing civilization to hell regardless of what you choose seems to be directly contradictory to what had been the rest of the storyline.

Fist was the origin boycott (even i missed that one), then the day one dlc boycott (this one not even i missed) and now the whole debacle with the ending. Biowares defense? We wanted to make the ending memerobal. Sure is but i dosent seems like it's very appreciated. Latly stuff like this one, Retake Mass Effect, showing up. Fund some other petitions with each with ten thousand signatures. I also find it distubing how big game sites are attcking their readers becuse of it. Probebly becuse they cant go out and critisise it after sayin it is good due to their agreements with the big publishers.

I honestly wonder how someone can think those endings were good. You've gotta either be a sheep who thinks Bioware can do no wrong, or be a person who just doesn't know what good writing is. Everything about the game was damn near perfect, and in the last 10 minutes it just shits itself. Glad someone pre-ordered it for me as a Christmas present cause otherwise I'd be even more pissed...

The whole last mission was fine it's probably the best mission leading to the ending of a game that I've ever played but.. that whole moment when I'm running toward the beam and after you get blown to shit it felt out of place in the first place and after that it was like being a kid again and dropping your ice cream into a pile of horse shit.

So, there is apparently something going around about Amazon giving full refunds for already opened copies of ME3.

Can't confirm it, but that would be a pretty cool move of them. No question that they can afford to do it, anyway.

Man, EA and Bioware really didn't do a good job this time, if one of the largest online stores is willing to to do this.

Hopefully they can do SOMETHING to make up for it.
