I just have to ask this question!!. I'm a big fan of shoujo and I have read my fair share of romance mangas.I'm not a big fan of love triangles, but let's face it, it's really hard to avoid because it's almost in every romance manga. Recently, I have just finish reading 2 shoujos ( koi ja nai no da! and Boku kara Kimi ga Kienai) and I started to think, would the story end better or would I feel happier if the heroine falls in love and end up with the second or the other guy instead of the main guy?

For example kimi no todoke :Kento instead of Kazehaya ( that's just an example) <--If this would had happen in some of the shoujo's you read would it be better or make you more happier?

There are countless romance mangas I read that I wonder why the heroine doesn't pick the "other guy" <_<

What do you think?

it would be interesting if she did in fact pick the second guy. or he heroine could look like she would go with the first but end up with the second guy....in fact in stardust wink there is that kind of development...but im not 100% confused

i'd like it because most of the time the love triangle is pointless. typically, you know the girl is going to end up with the first guy simply because he is the first guy, no matter if the girl seems to get along better with the second guy. i like stories that go against this cliche. the only problem i see with it is if the love triangle develops late in the story. like if after reading 30 chapters of a romance developing between girl A and boy A, all of a sudden boy B enters and takes the girl. after a certain point, you get so invested in the first couple that if someone else were to enter the picture out of nowhere, you might feel a little betrayed.

For some mangas I do feel that way - the nice childhood friend archetype as the second male lead should end up with the heroine.

It really depends on the second guy. There are hateful and irritating second guys so definitely don't want the heroine to end up with them. I tend to like the second guy better when he's the loyal, totally in love, nice childhood friend, whilst the main guy is a total asshole, and hurts (or something of the like) the main girl.

In short, depends on the story and how is the second guy compared to the main guy.

yes, if the second guy is the awesome nice guy and the main guy is this complete jackass, but its okay because he has a bad past.

No, if the second character is the manipulative type who only chases after the heroine because of some issue, but then starts to fall in love with her for real.

In stardust wink it does looks like that but I notice the recent episodes don't have hinata in it anymore.... so I'm not 100 sure either >_<

Exactly, that's how I feel sometimes about some shoujo's when the second guy enters very late in the manga and just totally irritates you instead of making the story better......

Most shoujo's I read, the second guy is always the sweetest and always loyal and loving and the heroine tend to always pick the jackass who treat them however they feel like..
for example: Obaka-chan Koigatariki<---- this heroine irritates me!!

Most of the time I would definitely feel disappointed if the heroine winds up with the second guy, I think. I've seen it a couple of times, but the mangas are usually tragedies (like absolute boyfriend, or kitchen princess), or its pretty clear by the end of the first chapter that the main guy is really the newcomer (like lovey dovey or moe kare!!)

But there have been a couple where the second guy was so clearly more interesting - Akai-Sensei in crossroad is still one of my favourite characters, while I just found the main guy dull.

And I think I would have been ok with Ichirou in Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume too.

I do feel disappointed to if the herione falls in love with the second if the second guy appeared in later chapters after you already developed a relationships with the first guy already.

However, I did read some where she do fall in love with the second guy which makes me happy like [m]moe kare!!![/m] biggrin

But all i want to kno if Obaka-chan Koigatariki will be like that :/

Childhood friends in Shoujo have a 1% chance of getting the girl.

yes, I always support the second one. geez, even if he has a personality of a main guy in another manga. I'm such a hypocrat.

well, it's just that the second guy would always be sweeter, nicer and just better than the first guy... and it would always be a mystery why the girl still falls for the first guy. Oh well, but in my opinion, I do like it better when the 2nd guy gets the girl simply because it's unexpected and I slightly feel that the 2nd guy's kindness was reciprocated and it is a justly ending...

Okay, I'd personally get angry with her and probably rant about it in the comment section (>.>). I don't know what it says about me, but I always root for the main guy. Period. It's just the way I am when it comes down to it. I think it might be because I like for the couple to be passionate about each other, even if that means they fight every now and again. It just always seems that the second guy comes off like a brother or friend and the relationship with the main girl is about comfort. He also seems to be written for the sake of pointless drama.

Another thing, I don't see why there needs to be love shapes in absolutely everything. Why can't the authors just write about one guy? Seriously. I think it's just to show that the girl is desirable to the opposite sex. It's frustrating beyond belief. They need to create more dynamic characters instead of tossing the flat ones into dramatic situations. Endvent.

P.S. Coolblue26, I love your signature picture (^.^)

P.P.S. Also, the main guy would be less of a jerk if the main girl had enough of a backbone to knock some courtesy into him. Usually, the main girl is just too weak in spite of the one-time instance where she says a few brave words to the main guy and then forgets about the backbone she almost had.

It would be more interesting, that I can't deny, however, I usually don't root for the second guy, I can't even name a time that I have, so I'd probably be somewhat disappointed.
