I think it is shape shifting that takes on another's appearance, it is annoying.
Shape shifting is fine but it gets annoying when you do know who they might be.

The most annoying for me has to be the RARE POWER. You know, the one that only the main character has that no one else does or is the most legendary power, blah blah blah. Drives me nuts to hear that over and over and over and over again. Someone should write a manga about an average character at an average school that has to deal with such a person... just so the main character does NOT have this amazing power for once.

Someone did. It's called Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu.

Anyway, I somewhat agree that the "rare power" a main character has can be annoying, but not for the same reason. What bugs me is when that rare power is degraded into trivial mediocrity in the next arc/chapter.

The most famous example I can think of would be Dragon Ball. Through the entire Saiyan/Namek arc all you ever heard outta Vegeta was how world-crushingly awesome a super saiyan was, and by God, he was right. The very Ley Lines of the planet were breaking apart under the strain of bearing even the mere aura a super saiyan.

Then in the next arc, this legendary transformation that shook the very heavens is unable to defeat a pair of .... ROBOTS!?

Ugghhh... I think it was at this point that super saiyan became a moot parlor trick, like a strange grunt you make to change your hair color instead of dramatically increasing your fighting capacity.

But enough reminiscing. I'd say the most annoying super power for me are the ones that weren't really thought through by the author. Like Accelerator. I think that's the first time I've ever seen an author ass-pull weaknesses from a 'hero' to move a plot (and I'm not talking about his fight with 'what's-his-face', either).

Or in RPG's, when you gain that one party member that previously displayed extraordinary powers during cut scenes, yet when he/she joins you, they're complete pansies. Uuuuuu, I hate that.

Most of mainstream shounen manga use this trick... so they can bring more and more chapters, but it's become repetitive soon. So boring. embarrassed

What manga is that? No manga with the name accelerator? confused

Ah, sorry. Accelerator is the name of a character in the series To Aru Majutsu no Kinsho Mokuroku, and he's not really a straight-up hero, but more of an antagonist turned anti-hero.

most annoying super power to be opposed too or to have? because ive never heard of a manga in which shape shifting was the focus as well main super power of the protaganist, but the conversation seem to be lead towards hero(cast).

in terms of hero, i hate convenient to the situation, there originally used in, only powers.
i also hate ill defined powers that let the author do whatever he decided half way through the story.
theres also sealed/unusable powers unless necessary powers.
powers with a time limit that is always teetered on then destroyed out of protagonist "will power".

in terms of actual powers for pro-tag, i hate;
flight,
instant recovery,
in battle lvl ups,
super speed,
god mode(different from lost control of there powers, and more like just plain can never be touched), and such
born with....

in terms of an-tag i have absolutely no problem with shape shifting. what i hate is;
teleportation (every bad guy can teleport. sometimes kidnapping the main female character and such),
super sight (sees everything the main cast does from there castle),
future sight (the gimmick),
mind reading,
inherited/instant lvl 9999,
mind control (over anyone, using main female cast.

anything thats pretty much

Let's see...

well, I hate the whole "I have super sight, but I wear these glasses with hazy lenses so that I don't get too tired" thing. If you have super sight, you're still going to have it with the glasses, you will just see the minute details in the frosting of the glass...they're not magic.

I agree with a few other people that I hate the "ultra-rare power" as well. It's always some loser who gets picked on in society, then he finds out that he has the legendary power of fill in the blank that is rumored to be unstoppable..until the antagonist shows up and somehow has an even greater power.

Which brings me to my most annoying superpower. The "ultra-mega-super super power." That power that is impossible to defend against. Something like complete hypnosis...a power that could be working on you at any time, like right now for instance, and you have no idea that it's happening. I can do anything to you or your friends and you cannot do a thing to stop me. So, when I fight the last thing standing in my way, our protagonist, I just don't bother to use my powers. It's always that impossible ability that the mangaka made so powerful that he couldn't think of a way to defeat it, so he just ignores it.

there is a light novel (forgot the name) where a boy was granted any power he likes. he think it's a joke and jokingly said he wants power to flip skirts. turn out he's one of the select few chosen to save the world with the power....

seriously, why are perverts always the hero nowdays? it's getting more and more annoying

Sorry, but I just thought of the most annoying superpower of all time (it shows up in most shounen manga).

The super ability to make friends with anyone. "I'm going to kill you and destroy your entire town. Ah, I lost. I guess we should just be friends now. I will go around, collecting more friends for you now." Or, "I'm going to bully you, because you're different. Oh, I guess we're not so different after all. Let's be friends."
