mega upload pays for their huge server to host upload (of massive size bigger then any other file sharing site that exist), fastest speeds, longest life, easy access, video, online storage, ect ect. unless your stupid and don't understand how money works, this requires a lot money, a lot of it, MU was world wide. look how much mangatrader ask for in return for what is a incredibly minor amount compared to uploads from around the world (on MU) and those are only to download the manga's.

the purpose of megaupload was not for pirates, pirates just found it convenient so they used it, like youtube (other video sites), media fire (other upload sites), bittorrent, irc, ect. mega was not limewire. its the users fault if there was pirated merchandise, their intended goal was not to profit off pirates but to keep there servers up and make a living (assuming they made a sizable income off it) and thats fine(mega isn't bit, you cant leave it running unsupervised after all, they also had to clean out copyrighted material), i dont see anyone else making a uploader as great as megaupload was, capitalism stress rewarding innovation with profit, the same thing rich/big business is b**ching when they destroy stuff like mega.

and your sadly mistaken about narutofan, narutofan required paid membership for otherwise free merchandise that they claimed were theirs, there's a difference.

The thing is, and this is actually the scary part, their servers and all other assets were confiscated... So this means all user account, all logs, all data, everything. The odd thing is that MU is not even a US company, it only leased a few servers in the US... Yet they were able to go after MU in it's entirety.
What's to stop the same people that went after MU going after it's users? Especially now that they have actual proof and personal information (not that I'm afraid for my self, but wouldn't be surprised if they went after the "big" uploaders next).

To make matters worse, what is happening is not even "allowed" by their own constitution and in fact the Human rights.
Article 5
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

There was no process, there was no solid proof. They just went after the biggest thing out there and brought it down, it's a childlike show of power and an obvious attempt to intimidate others.
Apparently the US government, and thus the big corporations that back it, are above the law and can already ignore it as they see fit (all the more reason why bills like the SOPA were a complete waste of time). The US president already holds the power to detain indefinitely anyone he wants without proof or process (due to laws already in place).
There's a lot more going on, and I'm fairly certain a large part is all conspiracy theories (but we're definitely heading in the wrong direction here), but I'm not going to bother getting into it.

Well there we have, the US has successfully shown the rest of the world it considers itself a police state from now on with all intentions of ruling the world. Any protest will just be ignored and going against them will just get you incarcerated (yay, more free labour for the big corporations that run the US/big part of the world... which is just a misnomer for slavery). Dystopia here we come.

Honestly, when will the UN and NATO finally step up and take action?

PS:
To all those thinking/saying "piracy is bad, they deserved it"... Honestly, don't be deceived and think for a moment, they should not even be ABLE to do half the things they are currently doing. What's to stop them from going after the "honest" people, all they need is a good excuse (well not exactly, but it makes them feel all good and fuzzy inside).

PPS:
Just a thought, but aren't they destroying their own economy this way.. I'm fairly certain many companies will withdraw many or all assets on US soil and will think twice about opening new contracts with US companies... Is that why they need the forced labour?

I don't think the US care much about destroying their own economy as long as they drag everyone else's down with them. Look at where the current economic crisis started and see where we are now.
I would think twice about investing in a country that runs on credit cards to begin with, because that's just asking for disaster to happen; all you have to do is wait until the economy finally caves in upon itself.

Its sad that my country is so f'ed up that I can't even refute those claims :/. Its apparently getting near the time tha it would be necessary to let the world fall into chaos, or put it into a lesser chaos by overthrowing our gov't.... I'm not a fan of either :/

I fully agree that what my country just did steps over all lines of the law, and its not the first time. We have cops kill people who are in handcuffs and unable to resist(they choked him with pepperspray), and they never even got punished. Not to mention our larger organizations are f'ing with people overseas for crap that was waaaayyyy less damaging than what our own wallstreet has done to us on our own soil. Add all this together and I figure we could be just a few years away from being turned into a totalitarian government that controls us with the military and pseudo military(police).... id say we need to wake up and notice we are losing our rights but tbh we probably couldn't do anything to stop it at this point.

Over half out population are brainwashed into thinking everything the gov't says is true, and the government can track all lines of communication in this country. Not to mention the government has info on almost anyone who has a firearm..... resistance would always fail...... like it or not from what I can see we are already taken hostage by our own system, and unless we can purge the sennate/congress and get some people willing to change things for the better, we are probably entirely screwed..... and the probability of this haappening is near 0%...

So basically despite how f'ed up it is, megaupload is getting arrested, and most likely will have company in the near future. Youtube will be threatened(even more) to show propoganda to blind us, and any vid site that won't will be accused of piracy. If you don't believe that they have the power/morals to do it, just look at the past few years and realize how close our laws actions resemble some HORRIBLE events of the past. Maybe it really is the end of the world this year sad

EDIT: id also like to not that filesharing/video sharing sites are out only hope of our people even seeing that they are being taken control of. And you may have noticed that they recently tried to get rights that would allow them to legally block the dns of almost every single reputable news/vid site based on linking to pirated material in even one instance... I find that a bit worrying and suspicious.

In about ten years, CD and DVD probably wont even exist, it will all be on the internet, why doesn't everyone just get with the times, even the newspapers are going online, why can't they just let videos go on line and that way, they won't loose so much money, they can still make people pay.

This is probably just one huge money making thing to help with the huge economic crisis that is still loitering around.
