You know, I used a lot of those, and I used them for exclusively legal downloads too. Crap.

Due to the Megaupload case (as well as Hotfile & Rapidshare) it has been shown that these Terms of Service loopholes are not considered valid by the USA / FBI.

That has not yet been decided. The FBI is not a court.

No, but they have extraordinarily broad powers. They may not be able to render a final judgement in most cases, but they can mess a lot up before one is given.

what was the point of sopa they already had the authority to do whatever they want. its like a serial killer asking permission to kill you while he is killing you

I'm a conspiracy theorist but imo sopa/pipa was an effort to sever all useful forms of unbiased information to ensure the government could control all information the u.s. citizens received.

I'm disappointed that this is happening but I can't say I'm surprised. It was only a matter of time before companies became aggressive in their attempts to impede piracy. It's far too difficult to search through millions of files/videos/etc to weed out what's legal and what's not, so the quickest way is to shut it down altogether. Since many sites are vigorously protesting SOPA/PIPA the entertainment business needs to tackle the issue in other accessible ways. But the internet is a huge place with a great number of clever groups. If the corporations are determined to protect their profits, the pirates are just as, if not more determined to undermine them. It bothers me that many files were kept on those sites that cannot be recovered. But this is by no means a loss since the moment one closes, another fifty will be sure to pop up. It's just how the internet works. It's full of frustratingly stubborn people. Silly SOPA/PIPA supporters, they think that this will solve something? Sorry bros, you're on the wrong internet. laugh

Well had sopa/pipa passed it would have changed stuff.... very forcefully in fact.... and no amount of undermining would be possible without drawing large amounts of attention.... thankfully we aren't quite corrupt enough to let that bill slide by.

well that sucks, but when MU was shut down, it was a given that others would follow. Maybe sopa will not pass, but "this" is their response to it. While RIAA and co didn't succeed with torrent sites, it seems that they got their way with file hosting.

Unless the guy seeding the torrent infect it wanting or not, the possibilies to get a virus from a torrent are much less than getting one from those websites full of ads( which many comes with some kind of tracking cookie) btw... remember those flash infecting viruses?... so bigrazz sorry to tell ya but torrent are as safe if not more than filesharing sites
