This a bit back in the manga, but i just picked it up recently.

So, there is this bird called Argentavis that is a "Cousin" of modern time Condors, all the animals in the manga are a bit different for what they look in the reconstruction, but this one annoyed me quite a bit. The reason?

First, it looks like a giant condor more that a Condor, second, It should't be able to fly like what's show on the manga...

The reason been that even modern time Condors can't fly as much as they "soar".

For a thing that big to fly is really hard, it would need to hunt in a mountain where it can soar. I'm not saying that it wasn't able of flying but that it's hard to believe that it could land in the middle of a plain and then fly off just like that (or that it could lift somebody like it did for the matter)

It's also annoying how magical girls don't exist in real life.

I like how you titled this >.>

Look it's extinct, so it's not really a big deal. And it's a manga.

Wow man, you are a big douche.

I was just saying that if he is going to use animals that existed he could use it the right way.

If he had just made up the animal i wouldn't have made the thread, it's not the same.

I was just saying, i tough the thread was to chat about the manga after all, is not like i'm going to send the mangaka an angry letter or anything stupid like that, just saying, to see if other people were thinking the same.

And i remembered you liked my "doped" thread and make this one.

What, you've never heard of Mahou Shoujo CONDOR-X? She has the special power of flight, just like her mentor, Mahou Shoujo ARGENTAVIS-X.

It's funny how things work out sometimes.

Ok, look: Robinson Crusoe, was a fantastic novel about a guy who get lost after his ship, which was in the way to Africa to get slaves from Brazil, is hit by a storm.
The story have such details that it makes you belive that the guy really "DID" get lost, even tough is all a fiction. The point is that of details in the history are crucial point, they are well tough and related to the common sense of the reader, as such is much easier to belive in it.

If you are thinking that is different since that this "Animals are extint" then i can say that since that is the point of the history that is not a bother to geting into it. Julio Verne made quite a lot of this kind of novels where there was a fantastic elemnt but every thing was well covered by common sense making you belive that "walking to the center of the earth" for example was posible.

I'm not telling you that i want the manga to be as good as a clasic novel but i'm trying to say that things that realated to the common sense let you, or at least to me, enjoy the story much more.

well, whatever it is, this thread seem to be ruined, so let's forget about it.

also, the cat of your sig is cute Pikapu. (both)

Edit: the cartoon one was really cute, too bad is gone now D:

Well, just to add my own comments:

I do agree with you that this is rather important. In fact, one of my criterias for determining how much I like a manga is how internally consistent it is as well as how realistic it is within the framework it makes for itself. In other words, as you mentioned earlier, if the author invents something, like mahou shoujo, then I expect him to make the rules and be consistent with them. If he borrows something, like a gun model, a type of food or an animal, I expect him to portray it as realistically as possible.

That being said, I do pretend to understand why he does it. First, this is a weekly serialized, shounen manga. I don't expect it to meet my demanding criteria set up above. I only really expect seinen and some josei to take that into account- a bit like with your allusion to literature, there are different types, and a weekly shounen manga serialized in a magazine is not meant to be intellectual or to suspend belief but rather to amuse, set out a gripping tale, chapter per chapter, so that people continue to read and like it, on a casual basis.

Of course, the other big thing is that the mangaka of a series like this is under intense pressure to get chapters done in time for publishing. It's really impressive how much they do. Yamada Yoshinobu has to prepare one chapter of this every week. Researching, story writing, sketching, drawing, colouring title pages or special pages - he doesn't have time, as most seinen authors do (who often release usually 2 volumes per year, about 1/3rd what weekly serialized shounen authors do) to make sure everything is exactly accurate. So he grabs concepts, he imagines what they could mean, weaves them into the story and starts working on it. Hopefully he has some time to have a beer with a friend or go home to visit parents on the weekend.

Well, I just intend to describe here what I imagine his reasons for any inconsistencies are: it's not as if he tries to add little mistakes. He has shown an impressive talent for thinking of so many eventualities, whether with camping, technology of the plane and tools, all the range of extinct creatures he has had to think about and the emotional angst that we should just try to enjoy what he is setting up, a chapter by chapter, amusing and gripping tale.

A good point to catch though BlackOrion~ I hope you don't mind my wall of text...

Hmmm also.. While the bird did pick someone up, he dropped him right away. It was even commented on that it was huge and probably shouldn't be able to do that. It only could fly because of how light it was, and because it was very light it was unable to carry the human. It has very low bone density or something.

While I'm not as scathing as my previous posters. If I'm not mistaken, the answers to your questions were in the very manga you were reading.

I read that, but ALL birds have bones like that, even the Condor.

My statement is still the same, is wrong.

Also, the thing about the guys falling was supposed to be because they grip was weak, and that's wrong too since they were supposed to have strong legs. When i said they shouldn't fly with then, i was trying to said they should lift off.

Thanks a lot for taking the thread seriously tough =D

Hmm, interesting. I have to admit, I only read the first volume of this manga, so I don't actually know anything of the scene in question. My comment was wholly concerning the creation process. But it is interesting to know that the mangaka might also have confronted this. I hope ikuyok answers the question for you~
