Actually, there are manwha translated to Chinese in Malaysia (: (I don't read the BM ones, so I don't know). Just drop by Kinokuniya and you'll see quite a few or you can always just order.

I don't read scanlations from SM or Meep, but it's always shocking to see scanlators closing down or get closed down.

It's sad(even though I don't read any of their projects) but it's to be expected. The more visibility you get, the higher the risks of getting a C & D like Snoopycool and other groups have received.

Also, does this mean that most or all of their projects were from the same publisher? If so, then I understand why they closed.

Oh and about ShoujoMagic, sad I see... then again, when one of the main founders disappears along with almost all the staff, there's little to be done about it.

Oh yeah, and I would like to emphasize and reiterate lamb's last point. I finally got around to trudging through the couple of pages of text for international copyright law and the links to the Universal Copyright Convention, the Berne convention, and the WIPO. Almost all the countries (at least, the majority of the one represented by scanlators) have signed on board the Berne Convention (which made the UCC obsolete once the United States conceded to join Berne) and that means automatically all countries who are members of the convention will uphold each other's copyrights, basically. The author's right to designate who may translate his/her work is a part of that copyright. So all scanlation, and even translation is illegal (in those member countries... which is basically almost all of them).

Ugh. Should have remembered to add this to the above. Sorry for so many comments. EVEN IF THE AUTHOR DIED, you have to realize the copyrights are still valid for up to FIFTY YEARS after the author's death for literary works under Berne.

well I agree so much with you onizuka ! I was thinking : what about the members of meep ?!! but after I thought.... I wanna add that... there was really one person in this group who really made it possible and worked hard (this person made sure the scanlation was good enough for all of us fan!!)... but some others were lazy and not so reliable and he had to work and redo so many times !! maybe it is not so bad the group shut down if you think about it @_@ one person working so much for the benefit of the whole group all the time@_@ no way ! ... well as a fan of course I am sad the group shut down ! i was like WTH what is happening to them?!!!! but still !!!!!!! T_T I know I am harsh ... but knowing this I can't just keep quiet anymore@_@

Dude.. I'm not trying to start a freaking war over this copyright stuff... but we do realize it's illegal, I am not providing any more information over our group... It is LEGAL for a person to report and give out warnings about stuff like this and we understand he is a good semaritan for doing so. I am, however, very ticked about this matter.
