None of that makes her a "minor character." You're making it sound like she was introduced in chapter 5 and didn't show up again till the last volume when she swept Manaka off his feet, which is not what happened at all.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
even though this isn't the place to argue, I will say that it was shame that after everything toujou went through and gave up, manaka(dumbass) threw her aside. but anyway going back to the poll If the ending is so out of place for the story(bad) I would not read it. If a story will only bring me anguish I will not touch it.

I usually check out what people are considering a bad ending. For shojo, people don't like it when the heroine dosn't choose a guy. I on the other hand like it, so I will read it.

If you knew a poll sucked, would you still vote?

i think the best of demographie polls were allready bad enough but this poll leaves you with even less choices.

Where is the "maybe" or "depends on the rest of the story" and all then other things between yes and no?

I wouldn't say the ending sucked. As a matter of fact, I thought it was a good ending. The problem was it went on too long. About 80 chapters too long.

Guys, use the spoiler tags if you're going to discuss details of the endings. Sheesh.

Can we get an admin on this, please?

Agree. The ending leave me with mixed feeling. But it not suck. For me, an example for suck ending is To love ru. I read the a few last chapter when the series end. Maybe it the best end for harem manga, but imo, it end suck and i din't read the whole manga. Yup, I vote no for the poll.

mmm... I also think it depends of the manga, but for example, a manga like nodame or skip beat or Bleach which I reaaaally liked from the beginning, I have kind of big expectation for the end, a screwed up end would ruin all the pleasure I had reading those.
But for manga I read just to amuse myself like you know, you read the summary and think:" yeah, why not? sounds nice" but you know that if you have never read it, it wouldn't have make a big difference, so how it ends is not that big of a deal...If you didn't liked the end you just erase it thinking "why did I ever picked this one?" and if you liked it it's more "Hehe, this little one is not bad at all, after all!!"
Anyway, I usually have crush for secondary characters (I don't really worry for the heroes since they're heroes but I always worry for the secondary characters which are always the first to disappear/ suffer for new development in the story...) and so I'm quite often disappointed by how it ends for them...
But there is a lot of manga that cannot really end like dragon head for example, the world in which characters are evolving changed so much that it's a problem that can't be solve...
Tokyo babylon's end is sooo bittersweet I was shocked but after some reflexion I realize that an other end wouldn't really suit better...
Isn't a good end supposed to be a subtle combination of what you expect and things you couldn't see it was coming ? but those points are different for everyone I guess...

Uh, sorry about that but it's not my doing. I actually had a few more choices for voting but lambchopsil decided to make it simple...

Keep in mind that the authors themselves are under pressure for the timeing of the ending. Thus, they will create abrupt endings when the publisher tells them to.
Conversely, they will stretch out a series because their editor/publisher don't want it to end. We've seen series that started off great and became watered down after enough volumes.
But then, if a series is popular, the author will want to continue to appreciate their success rather than gambling whether another story line (and their income) is rejected.
The endings that really annoy me are the ones where at the end, the people's actions don't match their personalities during the story.
Of course you could create a long cliche list of events that triggered series endings (i.e. discovery of a long lost relative, hero/ine in a car crash, etc.).

I voted yes, because if I'm still reading up to that point, I'm not going to stop even if I hear or get spoiled for the ending. If the manga has already lost me (due to middling to boring story lines, loss of plot, stupid twists or as another person mentioned stretching of the story because it's popular and they don't want to stop it) I stopped reading before the ending and won't care, though I'd probably still look up what happened.

Heck sometimes when I've dropped a series, it finishes and the ending is far out of left field or inexplicably sad I will go back and reread to find out what happened when I wasn't reading.

*blinks* I hadn't read that manga and yes, I agree with Mo this should have spoiler tags because there's meta discussion with great detail about a series right in the thread.

If I'm really into the manga, or if I've been reading for a while probalby.

I've never finished Absolute Boyfriend because I heard it ended sadly. :/ This was about 5 years ago but I still never picked it up again.

But i've read things that i knew didn't end well. so really it depends.

Agree about that "to love ru" it is a very good example of a bad ending I think.

It depends I guess...

Usually I know the ending sucks when I'm in the middle of my reading so then, it depends on how much I like the series.

If I know it first before starting reading, then... the same, is it really good? If yes, I'll continue reading and expect I won't cry at the end (a likable character died for example).

But if the ending sucked so bad then probably won't
