Yes, please buy the manga directly from Japan, they're still going to win since this is a coalition of American and Japanese companies so they kind of want you to buy their manga. Also you do know that Viz is jointly owned by three different Japanese manga companies right? It's based in San Fransisco as their American/English language venture.

Hopefully, MU won't be affected by this since you removed all direct DL links already. Frankly, I use MU in order to get information on LICENCED titles, to help decide what I want to BUY and who publishes it as well as to find scanlations that interest me.

OneManga decided to close down rather than to just remove those titles they got C&Ds for. That's their choice. Hopefully this won't affect too many other sites.

Haha, I hope they don't pressure you guys to shut down. I love this site. I wouldn't want it to get shut down too. Though I don't think they would have any reason to shut MU down.

Really good news honestly. Sites like onemanga/mangafox etc have been splitting the scanlation community apart, moving everything away from IRC onto websites. Now people are going to have to visit scanlation groups if they want their releases.

As a matter of facts, this will not change anything. Look at the whole gaming/movie/music industries, they have been fighting privacy for DECADES but they still can't win this battle.

Besides, the solution is quite easy, the manga hosting sites just need to change their server to some other country such as China, or Hongkong or perhaps offshore servers. Those countries are incredible famous for Privacy cause the police don't do shit about privacy.

Japan and US companies, at most, can only regulate sites within their countries. Outside their realm, they can only watch.

As someone has stated before, as long as there are people who willing to do scanlations, it will not end. Besides, pretty much most of the scanlation groups do their work as a hobby so whatever happens, it doesn't affect their work anyway.

Just how long will this battle last? We users have nothing to lose anyway. On the other hand, those companies need fund to maintain their campaign.

Theoretically, they are in testing whether their campaign is effective or not. If the sales of manga goes up, it means that their campaign is effective. Therefore, they will put more effort into stopping scanlation. On the other hand, if the sales drop, their efforts backfire them and the silly campaign will end soon.

Therefore, in order to support the scanlation industry (not the manga industry) WE MUST STOP BUYING MANGA NOR IMPORT MANGA. This does not hurt the whole manga industry in Japan because most of the sales are in Japan and oversea sales are only made up a tiny fraction. This is true because many manga that are extremely popular outside Japan but got cancel extremely soon just because the Japanese dislike it.

The whole reason that many scanlators do this is so that a title will get recognized and become popular here in the US. Popular enough to get licensed. That's kinda the point for a great deal of us and why we stop scanlating once it becomes licensed.

Plus... I hate to break it to you but where do you think we scanlators get our manga from? The good ones buy it and scan it as we want better scans than what you find online from random people who can't scan properly. So not importing would be very silly.

The whole argument to stop buying manga is silly. It is in fact why this whole mess started, because the sales of manga began to drop, thus they went for the first thing they could think of and that was scanlators. My personal opinion is that when manga became so popular the companies started licensing stuff left and right and didn't care about quality. They looked for cheap titles to acquire and didn't care about the story. It isn't so much that I don't want to buy US manga... it is just that they normally choose titles that don't appeal to me anymore. I think they need to realize that the group of people that bought their manga in droves have grown up and they need to start licensing titles for people besides 14 year olds who love vampires or stereotypical panty shot manga.

ironically i actually wrote an essay in which the whole naruto fan issue was half of it.

and now when they finally do something...... firstly this whole ordeal would have been great material for that paper. don't get me wrong i love the community and proud to be part of it.

and why the hell is narutofan still up and running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it should just fade into oblivion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it gives us all the worst image.

i have read just about 75% of all the manga translated so far but if i actually paid for it who knows where I'd be financially. OUR HOBBY IS FAR TOO EXPENSIVE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE LEGALLY AND STILL BE OK...

THEN again I'M 17.

Man, today I was at borders, staring down a wall full of manga and bought three volumes. When I return home, I see this! According to OneManga.com, they closed down their doors because of a change in heart by the mangakas and publishers. They were fully aware of the amount of people that read their manga scantlated in english, as evident by Highschool of the dead's announcement on an earlier chapter.

And besides, unlike music or video games, what percentage of us manga readers will actually buy the Japanese volumes? The percentage has got to be below 1%, and since alot of the manga is not available for sale here, then we're left with zero options.

Oh well, atleast we have MangaFox and alot more others! We musn't let up!
