This week's poll was suggested by our member comel. It's not really manga-related, but I don't really like any of the current suggestions, so...

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: For what reason do you usually read a new series?
Choices:
My friend recommended it to me - votes: 251 (1.9%)
The summary looks interesting - votes: 6758 (49.9%)
The reviews / comments on it were positive - votes: 697 (5.1%)
The art looks gorgeous! - votes: 1789 (13.2%)
I want to explore new genres - votes: 175 (1.3%)
It's the same author of a series I like - votes: 870 (6.4%)
It's so popular, so I must read it too! - votes: 108 (0.8%)
MangaUpdates (website or forum) suggested it to me - votes: 180 (1.3%)
It has such a high rating, so it must be good! - votes: 403 (3%)
The cover looked good - votes: 721 (5.3%)
I liked the name of the series - votes: 194 (1.4%)
I picked it randomly... No particular reason - votes: 1408 (10.4%)
There were 13554 total votes.
The poll ended: January 15th 2011

Wow, I wasn't expecting the choice of summary to win by so much... Hmm, I think that means that updaters should focus on brushing up on those series summaries so that people will want to read the series? Of course, all information is important!

I was expecting that but i was expecting "it's so popular,so i must read it too!" would have had more vote i guess lot of people lied because i know for sure lot of peoples start a series just because it's popular

and for this week question i walk to go almost anywhere if it's to far to go by foot i use the subway.

Walking, the bus, and occasionally the streetcar.

I believe the summary is important for choosing a new series but wow!

If it's most often, then it's probably my car, since I often carry stuff like cameras and lenses along with a netbook wherever I go. My preferred method of transportation is still my motorcycle, though, but it's more of a hobby sort of thing.

According to the results so far, almost 1% of the members here use a helicopter or a plane as their main mode of transport. That would be nearly 2000 people here then.....
I don't think so, Tim.... which goes to show that even on anonymous polls, people like to bulls**t - which is quite strange when you think about it.

Hey, where are trams? Are they included in the "Train or Subway" or "Car and others"? I like to travel by tram, whenever possible. They're spacious and cool. And they're environment-friendly, sort of.
They run with electricity.
I hate buses, as they often are quite packed.

i have motion sickness problem. whenever i ride in a closed shaking vehicle or play fps for too long my head and stomach feel sick. so i ride auto rickshaw, the vehicle which is costly than a bus but provides the rush of fresh air as it has no windows. i see the sights more than when riding in a bus or a car and still doesn't feel sick because the air is helping.

...is what I use most out of the house, with a transport wheelchair inside buildings. A transport wheelchair has 4 small wheels and is *much* lighter than a standard wheelchair. I'm too weak to push wheels and my capabilities vary, so I'll use my transport chair as a walker/bag carrier, or I'll sit in it and pull myself around a bit by my feet (only short distances), or if I'm really not well, I'll have my helper or someone push me.

I wish I'd had one when I still was able to work. I would have had a better social life and gone out more if I'd known about transport wheelchairs.

My motorized wheelchair is broken right now, so sometimes I'll make it to the nearby busy sidewalk, look for a kind face going my way, and ask to be pushed to the farmer's market. More people are nicer than you'd think. But I respect their time and capabilities. If someone hesitates, I tell them not to worry and that someone else will come along soon.

When I worked in Alaska, my main mode of transportation was a single-engine plane. I didn't take off or land, but I flew it. Also, it was 1% of the people who bothered to vote so far, not out of the total members. The one that bothers me is the "Boat or Submarine" part. A significant number of members must own their own island or something. Maybe even drug smugglers lol. Unless they're fishermen... I guess it's how you interpret the poll and the job you have.
As for me, I mostly drive a car because I'm simply lazy. Sometimes I like to show off and use a pogo stick, though. I can do multiple backflips, which is scary as hell to do, but I'm an attention whore, so yea. I rode on a camel and a llama into town once. Bad idea with the llama, which spit on passersby. It was really bad when it spit on an African American and I said "whoa boy!" Almost got beat up :/ I "borrowed" them from a friend's petting zoo. I got a hefty fine for every time it crapped on the sidewalk, too -_-

A friend of mine uses a boat as main method of transportation. If you live in the northern part of Amsterdam the fastest way to central station is the boat/pont. Which is basically a boat ferrying back and forth all day.

People check a series out because it is popular. Then they decide if they want to read it as well from other things.

I live in Bangkok, Thailand. We have canals here and there. Though the smell is not so favorable, it's one of the choices of transportation so I use boat quite a bit. But when I'm about to click in the boat choice, I saw submarine. Well, I've never ridden one before. Do I still qualify to choose the boat choice?
