I read all of those too! I enjoyed the ending of Kobato though... Not so much for Tsubasa and xxxHolic. Tsubasa's final battle was awkward to me and xxxHolic didn't spread the ending into enough chapters to explain things like who Himawari married etc.

xxxHolic's one should have truly been the worse one since it was rushed. As far as manga endings go, xxxHolic was the only one I felt disappointed about.

It's not retarded when the mangaka has more than one series with bad endings. And a "bad ending" can really differ from what most would consider an "ending they just didn't like".

Well, to be fair to the author, bad endings are subjective. To me, I disliked the ending of Samurai Deeper Kyo because it felt like the author took a couple bad liberties with the plot in order to force a certain type of ending (trying not to spoil it...).

But then again, I was fine with the endings of xxxHolic and Mirai Nikki that others have hated on in this thread and I will continue to collect CLAMP's stories, so one person's bad ending is not another ones. I would strongly encourage you to read to the end of Samurai Deeper Kyo for free at a library and then decide if you want to invest in it.

For me, though, Rurouni Kenshin and Full Metal Alchemist are two series I'm happy to pay for in any language! Especially the beautifully re-issued Japanese collectors edition with bonus coloured pages (!!).

It would be nice if I could lent them in a library, but I don't live in the USA, and in my country their isn't much manga. And the ten manga that they have in the library's over here, did I already finish a long time ago. As a matter of fact, I don't think it's still a option to buy Kyo, most of the series was done by Tokyopop. And you know what happened to them...... Well, that they went bankrupt is some sort of good thing, you've got the series complete, So in the end, when you sell it in the future, to a certain Billionaire for $10000 then you've been lucky and you can enjoy your new car. At least if you want to sell it for that kind of money.

When their is hope, their is live.

Indeed, what counts as a "bad ending" is subjective. Case in point, Alex623 finds Adachi's endings to be dissatisfactory while I think they're sufficient especially if you consider the events which directly and indirect led to that point. But again, these are just our opinions which are subject to our individual tastes. (peace, Alex! biggrin)

I give more weight to the development rather than the actual end. If the author keeps me reading until the very end then I'm more or less bound to check out his/her other stuff ("good" art - again, subjective - is also a plus). A "bad ending" is moot if the author can't sustain my interest.

Do we not get threads to discuss the polls anymore?

It really depends on what genre the next one is. If they did a romance first then an action series, then no.

But let's say that it's the same genre and the story seems worth a look, then I would still read it.

I would but if they did it over and over again I'm not sure I would. :/ I enjoy HMR's historical/pseduo historical stories but the endings are always so lackluster. :/ (Actually, her non historical ones are lackluster too but i won't read those anymore so...)

Even if one of the author story ending suck, or good; it stil depend largely on the overall plot of the author other stories. For example, with HMR, I can only to so much until I get sick of the plot line (almost all the stories have the same plot concept). Just because I love the author doesn't mean I read their other work if the plot doesn't hook me in like CLAMP (some good, some bad; would only read those I like). I tend to cherry pick those that I like base on plot, rather than by author. If their story good, I encounter it sooner of later without even having to go the their name.

Aethereal, my world.

i cant go into it without spoilers... but i read such a shit ton of manga, that if i get a bad end, not just an ending i dont agree with, but an end that makes me wtf, or even rage at how stupid it is out just how crappy it makes me feel... i dont read the next thing they write till its over and i know the ending.

im more of a journey over the destination person, but what the journey is tainted because of how bad the place you end up is...

and i also take axed endings into consideration too... because just because i like the mangaka doesnt mean i want to read and get into another one of their mangas only to be ruined by another axed end... they tend to happen to the same people more often than you think...

As the times goes by, I perceive the ending of any art piece get greater and greater weight toward that piece overall goodness. If the ending suck, so will be the all things. If the ending is awesome, so will be the rest. But, so far, I've come across pieces that even have such unsatisfactory ending, still hook me onto the ride. Even at the re-consumption! And I conclude, no matter how big the ending may impact, it won't weight over 50% of overall. And comes the side conclusion, If the other 50% are holycow awesome, I won't mind get disappointed by sucky ending again.

I've never looked at those before. They've always felt redundant when the comments are already there, though I have no idea why some polls get threads and some don't.
