Watching Goku grow up was definitely enjoyable. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much, however, if Goku stayed the same age throughout the entire Dragonball franchise. Also, even though he was ridiculously powerful, he acted like a kid. In other series like, Nurarihyon no Mago, they have a 12 year old acting, and looking like an adult. It just doesn't make sense, really. In fact, it's a huge part of why I enjoyed reading about the MC's father and grandfather more than the main story.

well yes i agree that its annoying when people act out of their age, worst example of this is really gakuen alice where it annoyed me to a point i could not read it. nura is atleast readable if yet annoying.
looking out of their age its easily "Wolf Guy - Ookami no Monshou" that takes both gold and silver its so missmatched its funny.
i prefer reading about characters portraid as realistically younger then me just because i can get the feeling "been there done that" that adds to the reading value but its a really minor part compared to the massive weight of a good story.
its harder to relate to a character older then me but they are so rare that when i find them they are instressting only because of that.

I don't hate Nura's story either, but I agree with you on his grandfather and his father being interesting. The only thing making Rikio pale compared to them, or other characters of the same age in other stories, is his learning process. It's nice to see characters become deep philosophically, but it plays smoother when they go through it with proper age progression. That's why I bring up Goku again, he had a simple mindset at the beginning of his journey. Then he started picking up a philosophy of his own through his interactions with others. It showed him growing up from the world around him, and his understanding of it evolved with his age. I think to many mangakas forget that when making younger characters like that these days.

I agree. When its a younger cast, its not necessarily a bad thing. However, when the cast REMAINS young (either personality, physically and/or mentally), THATS when the storytelling falls apart.
